A charming café located in the Merseyside Youth Association Building on Hanover Street. Being tucked just around the corner from Liverpool One means this is a calm, relaxing space where you can unwind from a few hours shopping or walk around the Bluecoat Gallery. My mum actually read about Lox & Caper and suggested we pop in for our first coffee stop of the day. The door is somewhat tricky if you’re a first timer, so take it from me and remember to press the button! You’ll understand. We were warmly greeted, as we were and always are during our trips to Liverpool, and couldn’t resist a quick nosy at the cake counter. Everything appears freshly made as the serving area backs onto an open kitchen space, which is also visible from outside through the large windows. We sat towards the back of the space, near a lovely wall adorned with plants and teapots. This is the kind of ‘co-working’ area proving very popular in Manchester and obviously making its way to the Mersey — you can imagine spending a good few hours here with your laptop. I had a tea, which was served loose in a teapot we’re fairly certain is from Leaf on Bold Street(independents supporting each other?) and we shared a white chocolate cheesecake with gingerbread base between the three of us. It was truly delicious, with the gingerbread cutting through the richness of the white chocolate, and setting us up for the hour or so before lunchtime rolled around. At just over £7 for 3 hot drinks and this delicious cake, Lox & Caper is more than good value for money. Just remember to press the button on your way out also…
