I was really disappointed in both my haircut and my experience at Herberts. I chose the salon mainly based on its reputation and after after having a baby and returning to work, I hadn’t had a cut in 9 months and thought I deserved a treat. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do with my hair, I had two ideas but really wanted to talk it through with the hairdresser. After sitting down, my hairdresser appeared and asked what I wanted, I began to say I’d like to colour it red and she walked off to retrieve the book of colours without saying much to me. She was quite only curt when I was picking a colour, rather than telling me what I could have, she told me what I couldn’t after I picked them out and would walk off without saying anything to speak with a collegue. I started to speak about the cut I would like and told her I wasn’t sure which cut to go with. She told me I should just decide and again walked off. After 9 months of thinking about it, what I really wanted was some advice and a consultation! When she came to cut my hair, she basically didn’t want to cut it as I asked, in a long bob, saying it would be too high maintenance. So I went for safe option number two, which was a side fringe. I asked if it was possible to have a side fringe that could also be worn down as a normal fringe, to which she said yes and quickly got on with it. What she left me was so awful. Just an extremely long, thick fringe(past my eyes) which she left styled down over my eyes I couldn’t quite understand how she thought this was ok. I think by this point she realised I wasn’t happy and so proceeded to be a bit nicer to me asking over and over again do you love it, yeh. Surely an experienced hairdresser would not have thought this a possible cut, and certainly not the way she did it. After waiting for this cut and pampering experience for 9 months, I certainly did not love it and just wanted to get out so I could cry! On top of this, I was then charged £131 by a fairly rude receptionist. I don’t think I’ll be going back again Two points to note: 1. When I made the booking, I hadn’t been before so I didn’t know who to ask to cut my hair. They automatically put you with one of the most expensive stylists which I think is a little crafty. 2. The girl whbo washed my hair and did my colour was actually really nice and sweet, so they’re obviously not all bad!

Herbert is one of Liverpool’s best known celebs due to the ITV documentary ‘Shampoo’, which followed Herbert and his minions in the day to day happenings in this multi million pound hair salon. Herbert himself can often be seen outside and around the salon, in flamboyant suits and smiling with extra white knashers! Herbert’s is the kind of place you would go if you really want to shell out on a haircut and be pampered, but it’s very expensive, so be warned, voodoo is around the corner and their artistic directors are the same price as a stylist in Herberts. Therefore you need to think, am I buying into a TV brand, do I want to spend £100+ on a cut, colour and finish? The nail bar seems very popular and given the open plan nature of the salon, you can often see women having 4inch claws grafted and polished as you walk down to Tesco’s for your 99p Head and Shoulders and nail file! Herbert himself is undoubtedly a great hairdresser, and this salon has a great reputation throughout the city. So if you want pamper and luxury and you’ve got cash to spare, I guess Herbert’s is the place for you!

This salon is situated in the Bling Bling Building, which is bling bling by name and definitely by nature. The multi-million pound salon is also the home of the ITV docusoap«Shampoo». If you fancy a hair cut with the Style Director, you can expect to be set back £49.50, and a restyle will cost an extra £6 on top of that. Highlights and lowlights will practically bankrupt you if you have long hair, costing around £110, and a full head comes in at £88.If you want to experience the salon but don’t fancy having to do overtime, you can have appointment with the stylist, and your total price will drop by arond £30. The Sonia Jesson Nail Bar opened up in the salon providing top class nail extensions, pedicures, french polishes and much more. Sonia Jesson’s client list includes Nicole Kidman and Britney Spears! If you want to experience 1st class treatment, I’d recommend this place. However, if you’re looking for a simple cut and colour, I’d go somewhere else!
