Hearts Health Club

Hearts health club is a great womens only health club. However since new owners have taken over the monthly off peak membership has been increased by an astonishing 24%. I feel this I’d just unacceptable despite the new spin classes, etc and the recent cosnetic makeover. A monthly fee is of £31 is excessive and much more than other health clubs in the area. Therefore I reluctantly am cancelling my membership.

I’ve been a member of Hearts for years and love nearly everything about it: the gym is well appointed, there is a fantastic range of classes, the staff are friendly and helpful, there’s a sauna and jacuzzi and plenty of changing facilities which, like everywhere else in Hearts, is always spotlessly clean, there’s also a beautician’s and hairdressers downstairs and a great snack point upstairs.
My only complaints, really, are that there are few truly outstanding instructors; the fittest and most inspiring girl left recently and the remaining are not really quite at the same level. Further, the incorporation of «Cyber Classes» still baffles me, as in my mind the whole concept of attending gym classes such as aerobics and boxercise is to join in; it’s social, it’s live and it’s motivating; I don’t want to be paying membership to watch a fitness DVD, I could stay at home with Colleen Nolan’s Lets get Physical. I do appreciate that the cyber classes provide extra sessions, perhaps when instructors or a specific class is not available in one of the studios, however these should not become the norm.
My final qualm is the ridiculously complex written timetable — the range and number of diverse classes is fantastic, however the actual timetable is, to my brain, quite daunting. There’s times and length of sessions (of course) and, for the most part self explanatory named classes: «women and weights», «abs blast», then a code of «styles» and a weight loss system to work through which is both colour coded and points based. While it is useful to know what sort of class you are partaking in: Muscular; aerobic, holistic and so on, and it is encouraging to ascertain the body fat you have burned in each class, it all seems a bit much: the writing is tiny and barely discernable so all this information can fit on, and its so convoluted a box detailing «how to use this table» is required.
Anyway, enough moaning. It’s a good gym and with your own dedication and positive mental attitude you will achieve your weight loss and fitness goals.
I lost around 3 stone through regular attendance at Hearts, and my fitness levels were greatly improved. My favourite classes are probably body combat and legs bums and tums.
Memberships vary according to age and desired times of attendance but they’re all pretty reasonble and there are usually offers on.
