Martin Scorsese would shake his head with despair if he visited Goodfella’s. There’s no trace of the style and attention to detail that went into his cult Italian gangster flick in this neighbourhood pizza take-away. Neither is there a passion for real Italian flavours, quality ingredients or traditions. The pizzas look and taste disappointingly bland and the fact it’s served alongside burgers and fries rather than delicious anti-pasta and homemade deserts speaks volumes. Scorsese should send Ray Liotta or Joe Pesci to have a word…

Goodfellas, cliché of a name and as you would expect this place specialises in Pizzas. There are various other places on the Smithdown road which provide the same type of fast food and unfortunately for this place many of them do a much better job. For a place with an Italian name you would expect them to be experts in an Italian classic such as a good pizza but this is not in fact the case. The waiting time can be long and the staff don’t really appreciate being bothered whilst they are busy which is not a great attribute to have for those who work in a people orientated business. The food is never really above average and you are a brave person if you try anything other than a standard margarita pizza. Goodfellas doesn’t try hard to be anything other than average and you can see that in the results they get, if you’re drunk and in need of some grub there are worse places you could visit but there are also a lot that are better.

Good Fella’s isn’t my ideal takeaway, serving pizzas and burgers and all things greasy and bad for you, this is the perfect place when you’re starving and desperate for something disgusting after one too many pints of lager. I ordered once when sober and the food was cold and took over an hour to arrive, it was also very very greasy. It seemed to have been reheated — I didn’t eat it. I’d avoid as there are many places which serve similar style food at a much better quality.
