Everyman Theatre

Well, rather a lot has changed since the Everyman was last reviewed on Unilocal… not least that the building was completely razed to the ground in 2011 and rebuilt into the magnificent and award winning (The Sterling Prize for Architecture 2014 no least!) creation that now resides in exactly the same spot as before. Not only is it a stunning piece of architecture but it is also a brilliant piece of environmentally friendly design with, amongst many other recycled elements, 25,000 bricks from the old Everyman and huge chimneys creating natural ventilation. There are even nesting boxes for swifts and bats. Bless.
The ethos of the theatrical content remains the same though with a dedication to inspiring and engaging a wide variety of audiences by producing a huge variety of shows, a passion for delivering new writing, a flare for giving a contemporary twist to classic pieces and generally to producing world class theatre. I have hugely enjoyed the shows I have been to see since the re-​opening in March 2014 and absolutely love the new auditorium; I immediately felt hugely at home in somewhere that feels so familiar despite looking so different.
The new Ev Street Café is absolutely one off my favourite places to meet and eat in Liverpool and the food and service is always lovely. The downstairs Bistro had a shaky start (but then it had big shoes to fill…) but is definitely getting there and I really enjoy heading there for aftershow drinks and have had a couple of excellent pre-​show meals there too.
The only teeny weeny complaint I have is that sometimes the service in the foyer bar before shows and during intervals can be a little slow (it feels like they need one or two extra members of staff behind the bar but maybe there just isn’t room!) but it really is a small complaint and has never majorly impacted on my enjoyment of an evening in the theatre.
It was such a thrill for so many people in Liverpool when the Ev re-​opened and certainly for me that thrill hasn’t gone away. Long Live The Everyman Theatre!

The Everyman Theatre is the second biggest in Liverpool behind the Empire and it certainly holds its’ own providing top quality theatre in great surroundings. Visiting the Everyman can be a complete night all in one place you can grab a bite to eat at the bistro beforehand watch a show then visit the bar afterwards for some refreshment. The staff are extremely pleasant and they obviously adore the theatre and our proud of the work they do at the Everyman, as they should be. Their website is fantastic also it provides endless information and has a feedback section which can only help to make the Everyman even better. The main thing about the Everyman which strikes me is its’ character you can feel a real history inside the place and pictures in black and white of old stars such as Julie Walters adds to this feel. They also manage to attract big names Kim Cattral will be appearing as Cleopatra soon in the production of Anthony and Cleopatra which looks promising.
The Everyman is classy authentic and has real character, Liverpool has a wide variety of arts and The Everyman is one of the jewels in its’ crown.

The Everyman Theatre has a reputation for ground-​breaking work from respected directors, writers and actors.
The theatre is located in a busy student area and a very popular form of Liverpool entertainment.
I have not been inside as I’m not a fan of theatre but I have heard from some of my friends that it is such a stunning venue for performing arts and probably one of the best places to go aside from the Empire (its rival theatre one might say).
What I do entail, is that it is a well reknowed, innovative and adventurous theatre that never fails to ‘wow’ the audience!

Liverpool and culture go together like cheese and onion, frosting and cupcakes, vegemite and peanut butter… er, perhaps that’s just my guilty pleasure. Anyway the Everyman is a great example of that city culture, a lovely old-​fashioned and traditional theatre with an ambience to match. You can catch everything here from plays to pantos, children’s entertainment to Shakespeare.
It’s ornate and pretty, steeped in history, and the seating’s remarkably comfy as well as laid out very efficiently. The efficiency extends to the staff who are quick on their feet but friendly too, and the little traditions are just wonderful — ice cream in the intermission, drinks too, but watch your wallet because theatre prices are darn well dear. That goes for all playhouses though. Its central location is hugely convenient and you can get to it both from Regent’s Arcade or a separate entrance from the street. The NCP car park on top of the theatre means you won’t be walking far for your entertainment as you can access the entrance from it directly.
If you get the chance you must catch a production here, it’s a gorgeous theatre.

The Everyman is as much a Liverpool institution as the Liver Birds and The Beatles. It has been the venue for many daring plays and performances and is still a draw for notable theatrical names such as Pete Postlethwaite and Alan Bleasedale.
I recently visited for a stand up performance and was amazed by how intimate the venue is and how close you are to the performance even if you are sat near the back of the hall. The Everyman likes to encourage its reputation for fringe theatre not simply through hosting lesser known plays but providing opportunites for new writers, poetry evenings and its Rock ‘n’ Roll panto.

I studied Theatre at uni so I came here a lot. i love that the theatre has not changed from it’s humble beginnings — hence its name (it was intended to be a theatre for every man) The performances here are real gems and the atmosphere cannot be beaten.
