This branch of Evans is situated in the city centre of Liverpool. From the outside it looks quite classy and interesting. Inside the store is quite small. They sell clothing for larger ladies such as jeans, dresses, underwear, swimwear, tops, suits, jewellery, accessories and outerwear. The items available are all a bit samey. The basic items such as jeans and work trousers are good and fairly inexpensive but there isn’t really anything that stands out. The staff are very helpful. When you go to the fitting room to try items on the attendant will take the items off you, lead you to a free fitting room out of the many available, and then advise you to ask them if you need any help. They are happy to bring you more sizes and if the size you need is not in store they will phone round other stores to see if they have it, or they will order it specially for you and contact you when it has arrived. The store is clean and tidy and there seems to be a good stock of sizes on the rails. This is a great little shop.

Evans is one of the places suitable for women of bigger dress sizes. It is the only shop I believe in the city centre that you will find caters for larger fitting, so if you fall into that category and have no other options then this is the shop for you. Most of the prices in general are moderate as they are specialists in the trade but one thing for sure, is that you can guarantee quality material, a glorious variety and something that perfectly fits. I went with my Grandma once(who’s first language isn’t English) and staff were very helpful and considerate in deciding what was best for her. Overall, a great service and an ideal shop for bigger women.

Sweet sorbets Stripes and spots Florals Global safari & Festival This city centre branch of Evans stocks all the same collections as the Birkenhead branch. The only minor difference is they seem to have a more extensive range of beach and swimwear than other branches. Alongside embroidered and crocheted vests, there’s tunic tops, camisoles, jersey shorts, denim shorts and dozens of different maxi dresses. The real incentive to visit however, is their excellent range of swimwear — which includes bikinis, bathing suits and kaftans. Acknowledging not all women the same size have the same size breasts, each design has two different cup sizes. Clearly, it’s time to hit the beach…

Being a lady who is(aherm) ‘slightly on the curvy side’, I find it a real bugger to buy a pair of jeans which both a) fit me properly and b) don’t continually slide down my bum, thereby revealing my pot belly and derriére to the world at large.(If you suffer from this problem too btw, I feel your pain. It’s really not a good look). Thank goodness then for Evans. This department store has had a bit of a bad reputation, as whilst it does cater for plus sized ladies, its clothes have always erred on the side of frumpy. Thankfully, its buyers appear to have finally started to realise that larger ladies like to look fashionable too, and of late it’s finally started to stock halfway decent looking clothing that women might actually like to wear. This branch of Evans isn’t the biggest in the world, but it does manage to stock a relatively comprehensive selection of clothing. It had plenty of jeans in stock when I went into the store, although sadly not in as many sizes as I would have liked. I also found the changing rooms to be poorly lit and incredibly hot. I dread to think how the poor staff there will cope during the Summer months! Hopefully one day there will be a bigger and better branch of this store in Liverpool filled to the brim with oodles of well fitting, stylish clothes. Until then, I’ll just pop in here for the essentials. Like jeans. After all, you can never have enough jeans!

If you didn’t already know, Evans is the shop for larger ladies, but you can often find women in there who don’t seem to fit the bill. That’s because Evans has clothing similar to what you’d expect to find in Next, but for slightly cheaper prices. Starting at size 14 and going up to a 32, this is the place to feel comfortable if you’re carrying a few extra pounds and are worried that you’ll never get the latest fashions in your size. At the moment the shop is full of florals and nautical clothing, and there are some fab items in the sale too. The shop assistants are nice and friendly and know what they’re talking about, and even the security guards understand when you furtively dart inside the door to make sure no one sees you(it’s not always ‘cool’ to shop at oversized clothes stores) Definitely somewhere I’d head after the post-Christmas pounds to stock up on comfy gear until the New Year diet kicks in round about March…
