My wife and I spent two days in Liverpool and fancied going to a restaurant that was family friendly and a bit different. We were looking on the Maps app and found this Greek restaurant which wasn’t too far away from the Hampton Hotel, which is where we were staying. I must say, this is the best night out that we’ve had in ages as the simplicity of friendly conversation with staff and fantastic good quality food gives this restaurant it’s edge. Our 7 week old daughter happened to be the centre of attention whereby when she decided to get a little moody when tired, the staff kindly offered to entertain her as we were eating our dinner(service you wouldn’t find in your franchise restaurants!). Don’t expect this to be a post modern contemporary experience. Here what you get is good solid family cooked food and fantastic customer service. When we return to Liverpool we’ll definitely come back.

Great value for such a price. The chef has a great sense of humour. Strongly recommend it!

Not bad by any means, but we’ll be on the look-out for better. A solid 2.5. We had a meat platter, spanikopita main, and a glass of house red. The wine, the only red available by the glass, was adequate; some selection would have been nice. The meat platter came with a selection of souvlaki, lamb chops, lamb and pork sausages, ham and saganaki on a bed of rice, together with breads and a selection of sauces(tzatziki, tahini, hummus and taramasalata), and Greek salad. The spanikopita came with chips. The tzatziki, which used high-quality yogurt, was excellent, as were the pork sausages. The Greek salad was mediocre and very skimpy on the feta; the lamb sausages tasted«off»; and the souvlaki was extremely dry. The spanikopita, which lacked feta cheese and was very thin, would have been extremely disappointing if ordered on its own as a «main.» Everything else we tasted was about average. Our server was attentive, and didn’t skimp on the occasional funny comment regarding the enormous amount of food we ordered! The atmosphere was reminiscent of what you’d expect from a friendly neighborhood taverna. All in all, for about £35, the quantity is there, but for quality’s sake we will check out other mediterranean offerings in Liverpool before we return.

Christakis is a dieters dream… lovely fresh food and had a fun and inexpensive evening to boot. Went on Friday evening with a couple of girlie friends. Really enjoyed the fun atmosphere and very much enjoyed the in house entertainment. A fab night out and will definitely be returning for a Birthday celebration soon.

I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to go for Greek food again after seeing Michael Barrymore’s horrible interpretation of a Greek plate smashing tradition on Celebrity Come Dine With Me the other day. I mean, gosh Michael, I know Pat Sharp sported one of the most spectacular mullets of the 80s well into the late 90s and spent the entire episode trying to make friends with Jenny Powell’s breasts, but did you have to smash his toiled over Greek lamb all over the floor? That’s just rude! Well, this place puts our minds at ease. There are moments of raucous fun but generally it’s all rather rustic and lovely. That goes for the décor too — uneven, rickety tiles(watch your feet) and chipped walls add to the authenticity and charm of the place. Be wary when ordering, as the portions are mighty generous and there’s simply no point in grabbing a Greek salad at any point because all its ingredients will be on the side of your main dish. There are a ton of veggie choices too, so everyone’s happy. The restaurant is housed in a listed Victorian building which makes the surroundings very pretty, and the atmosphere is welcoming as well as jovial. Stop by on a weekend and you’ll find DJs playing, belly and Greek dancing and the dreaded plate smashing right up until 2am. It hasn’t changed at all in the 30 years it’s been going so pop along and partake in a city centre tradition — just be aware that you might wake up with a sore head, these Greeks do know how to party!

Been once, food was mediocre. Entertainment is funny but a bit strained. I’m not a big fan of Greek food in the first place, it’s all just a bit oily and Christakis didn’t change my opinion. A good place for large party bookings as it keeps the whole party in one place for the whole night.

I love everything and anything to do with the Mediterranean side of the world. The food, culture and the energy of the people are all things that really are up my street. It is however a coincidence that one of my best friends(coincidentally of the same name) is Greek Cypriot. I have spent many summers at his barbecues and am very much a sucker for Greek-Cypriot food. Naturally I was keen on dining here when an opportunity for a friends birthday came along. Christakis has been around for over 25 years and is very much established as one of the most popular restaurants in the city centre. The owner and head chef«Chris» is still very much at the helm and to this day welcoming every customer through the door. I like this touch and the down to earth nature of this humble man. The food however on the day was very good. Although I must say that it still doesn’t compare to the home cooked barbecues I am accustomed to, perhaps I am bias who knows. I had the Stifado which after the customary jokes that came with the name of the dish didn’t quite match up to the slowly cooked beef with garlic and onions I had at my friends humble abode. Perhaps it was his mum’s secret recipe sauce that made the texture of the beef rich with flavour. Who knows… It was very nice, but I’m sure rarely but rarely we all get that feeling of… yes it was good… but I have had better… The entertainment I must say was great and really good for comedy value. The belly dancer was mesmeric. I have always enjoyed this traditional middle eastern dance, I was confused however as to its relevance in a Greek restaurant, but perhaps Chris is a fan and it is his restaurant and he can do what he likes surely. Never been a big fan of the plate smashing but hey, it is their tradition so respect… One thing is for sure this dining experience will not be a quiet and conservative affair.

The place to go for the ‘authentic’ Greek experience. I’ve been here a couple of times, generally for birthdays, as it is a meal and entertainment rolled into one. Yes, there is good Greek food. Yes, there is plate smashing. Yes there is a belly dancer who drags you away from your table and forces you to participate for the entertainment of others. And to top it all off, there is a cheesy wedding-reception style disco afterwards. Christakis ticks every box, therefore, for a good night out. If that’s your thing. I suppose you could say it is family friendly. Although it wasn’t very family friendly when they got my mum up to belly dance. Serves her right, she shouldn’t have been eyeballing the belly dancer and commenting on her outfit. Everyone knows when a participatory act comes on you stare straight down at the table/your feet/out the window until they leave. Oh, and don’t sit too close to the dance floor. Not only to avoid the belly dance, but to avoid shards of ceramics hitting you in the face when the plate smashing commences. Health and safety would just spoil the experience though, right?

Christakis shouts out loud and gets the crowds in !!! A popular restaurant with an authentic feel… well almost. This is ‘old school’ Greece; undecorated for years. Exposed wiring, uneven floors, and a hint of unclean. Food is plentiful. Don’t order too much, and don’t order a salad for starter; you get exactly the same on the side of your plate, for main course. Go into the kitchen, see the food, and chose what looks good; that’s the way they do it in Greece. Restaurants in Greece have generally gone boutique, designer, nouveau cuisine. Someone should tell Christakis! This was a rushed visit. I’ll go again, stay longer, and expect a lot more than I got. Watch this space.

Established in a listed Victorian building in Liverpool city centre for the past 30 years, Christakis is a welcoming Greek restaurant. You can experience authentic home-cooked Greek food prepared by Cypriot chefs with a good choice of dishes, including plenty of vegetarian choices. At weekends, there’s Greek dancing, plate smashing, belly dancing and DJs right through until 2am.
