This is a funny little discount department store that is sort of like a combination of a pound shop, Wilkinsons, a garden shop, and a pet shop. Here you will find anything and everything from knitting wool to stationary, dog biscuits to potted plants, fabric dye to candles, and chocolate to paint. Yeah, you can find nearly anything here.

Everything you need under one roof! Well not really but it’s all the useful stuff that you need around your house and really cheap prices so perfect for the third year students or grads now moving slowly away from city centre/inner city living and into respectable surburban Allerton/Aigburth. It’s mainly DIY — although not the heavy duty hardware kind of stuff — and domestic things to help wash the dishes more effectivley or clean you floor and that kind of thing. In fact all of these goods are probably found to be most useful for all the nearby bars and restaurants who either forever losing such useful items or needing to clean up after their clientel on a Saturday night.

This place is stuffed full of useful things and it’s all cheaperty cheap cheap! If you don’t have your England flag yet(I am sure you will do, but well just in case) there are plenty on sale here. Outside dustbins(£8.99) — they have plenty of these as well, as compost bins. I found a really useful wash basket to put my washed clothes in as I hang them up on the line or take them down. Plastic seats and plastic steps — hmmm rather a lot of plastic, it’s not good for the sea, as it will eventually get there, I don’t doubt that. Most of this shop is probably my dad’s dreamland — paint galore, brushes, gardening pots of every kind, pet accessories. Would you believe it — reading glasses as well!

The Chandlers discount store in Allerton sells a wide variety of household goods, especially basic DIY equipment and other bits and bobs(that’s how I shall put it as I’m no DIY expert)! Oh, and they sell chocolates too! Anyhow, if you’re looking to replace your broken brush or mop, then you’re in luck here. Everything in this store sells well in terms of price but I’m not sure about quality as I’ve not actually bought anything from here. From what I have observed, they have a generous selection of garden related items; this is what hit me most when I first entered. I would consider this store as very handy indeed because it provides all the home and garden essentials and if you’re a hobbyist of such trades, you’ll enjoy what the store has available.

Nestled behind Yates’s pub on Allerton Road, Chandlers Supercentre really is super. As you walk in, you’re met with aluminium and plastic bins, potted plants and sacks of garden-type stuff(I want to say fertiliser but I’m not sure). Further in, you find packets of seeds and you’d be forgiven for thinking this was just a garden shop. But you’d be wrong. Crammed in to the aisles you can find kitchen stuff, haberdashery stuff, household cleaners, pet stuff, stationery, camping equipment, paint, dodgy 80s videos and chocolate bars. This really is an Aladdin’s cave of treasures. If you’re a fan of Wilkinson’s you’ll like it here, and everything is cheap as chips. The shop assistants tend to be young lads who don’t seem to realise they’re working there, but don’t let that put you off. This is a great place for whatever you may need and if you live locally it saves you trawling around town looking for a bargain.
