I ate lunch at Blake’s in Liverpool, England on 5÷13÷2015(13th of May 2015). It was my 1st time there. I was with a tour from the ship The Royal Princess. We had good food and good service. Plus, I took photos.

have the burger. I am learning that keeping it simple is the best way!

The food was quite tasty but the place has less atmosphere than a public toilet. Lights were on full and they started putting out the hotel breakfast during our meal. Schoolboy error in how to create a memorable dining experience. Fail. Basic ingredients are there, they just need to work on the presentation. Or drop the £24 steak down to £12 and go head to head with Harvester.

Accommodating, good basic food. Friendly staff, good choice for the neighborhood.

This place is just one big disappointment. Maybe I was expecting an unrealistic Yellow Submarine technicolour experience but still the lack of warmth and atmosphere in this place is still something that will leave any Beatles fan cold — cash cow indeed. The service is great however with very attentive staff — the young lad serving us went out of his way to check on what eactly a Dragon fruit is that was in our fruit salad. The food really is very tasty and well presented but the days of nouveau cuisine are long gone and there is not enough value in the teeny tiny portions that you get here. The lamb and fish n chips on the early bird deal were excellent and is probably your best bet for getting a square meal.

Let not the fact that this restaurant plays side kick to the luxurious 4* hard days night hotel fool you. Blake’s really does capture the imagination and you should you decide to take your loved ones you will gain some browny points indeed. While munching away you will be mesmerised by your unique surroundings. The Beetles theme is fitting and I am surprised that there aren’t more venues or restaurants paying homage to the legendary band. The environment scanning might cease once the taste buds start screaming at you to pay more attention to what you are consuming. he A la carte menu gives you a healthy range of options. For starters I had the Seared West Coast Scallops, Watercress Purée. The mains presented a tough choice indeed as I fancied a few options. Seared fillet of Seabass avec saffron linguini and spiced seafood broth look fairly appealing until the broth bit. One look at the veal and I wasn’t too keen on the«maple bacon farce» yes farce indeed… and I don’t eat pigs. I could have gone for the safe option of Roasted whitchurch chicken breast with Lobster Mousse crab & Potato Salad and Sorrel Beurre Blanc, but I always have chicken so I thought lets be adventurous. Eventually I opted for my second favourite meat of lamb. Blakes roasted lamb rack which comes with buttered baby vegetables is simply delightful, especially if you have it with cream mashed potato on he side. oh oui oui … Now I must admit that under normal dining circumstances I never have dessert, mainly because I am sucker for the mains and sides and starters, by the time it is time to have dessert I am very full. However I had to try the upside down toffee apple cake with banana and butterscotch ice cream because it sounded too good to be true… and it was… So get yourself down to Blakes and wine and dine someone special. Make sure you check the wallet before you go though, as it might set you back a standard £50 per head on average. Well worth it though…

Ah, the Hard Day’s Night Hotel restaurant! Well, it forms part of the hotel anyway. Right in the heart of the city centre lies this excellent space, light and airy and right near Mathew Street, so it makes a great stop on any die-hard Beatles tour. There’s plenty of Beatles-y artwork to feast your eyes on, but what about feasting your tastebuds on some delicious food? It’s a little pricey(the drink prices being a particular stickler) but the quality is good here. Starters like potted shrimp are down to earth but done in a manner with just enough sophistication, not too much to completely overwhelm the tradition of the dish. The lunch menus are great value and the cuisine is mostly British with locally sourced ingredients. The service here is perhaps its standout point, with the staff being just the right balance of friendly, attentive and not too invasive, and they’re sure prompt too. All in all this place combines efficiency with creativity, tasty food with a dash of highbrow class and some great memorabilia to get tongues wagging. Not a bad restaurant at all, and fast becoming a Liverpool favourite.
