The BBC shop is situated round the corner from the Liverpool ONE development in the city centre. It is next to Radio Merseyside’s offices. The window displays tempted me inside to have a closer look. They have a huge variety of DVDS of many different BBC shows, cartoons, dramas and series. You name it, if its been on the BBC channels you can get it here. They also stock toys, gifts, t-shirts and gadgets related to the shows. The staff here are friendly and helpful. I went in for a present for a friend who is obsessed with Dr Who, and they showed me the huge range of Dr Who items they have, showing me the items that were rare and exclusive to the shop. They also have a large range of educational books, for example books to help GCSE students in the run up to exams. A great shop for presents for geeks.

The BBC shop is both a gift shop and a media shop. Here you can find all sorts of DVD’s of BBC shows and dramas, as well as Merseyside/Liverpool souvenirs and memorabilia. They also sell some toys/collectables of characters from various BBC shows. I’d never been in here before the other day, and was surprised at how close it was to Central Station. For some reason I guess I never realized where the BBC office was either. Anyway, it’s very accessible(just come out of the station at the front and turn left down Hanover Street and it’s on your right.) This would make a good place to take friends who are visiting Liverpool for the first time, and probably also a good place to look for Christmas gifts!

I have never had much need to shop here personally, I must admit, but I don’t watch much TV and I don’t listen to BBC radio stations. However several of my family members are avid listeners of Radio Merseyside and find the merchandise sold here very appealing. I’ve always been of the opinion that one can buy most of the stuff in any media based shop or online retailer, however BBC shop is much more specialist and can order whatever you require, for example recordings for radio shows and several of the local based performers and presenters can be purchased here such as Billy Maher, Pete Price and Tom Slemen. While it is a little expensive, it may well be the only place you can buy a required item.
