It’s not that Anderson’s Bar is a particularly abhorrent place, when I visited I found it quite enjoyable, it’s just that you get the strong feeling it’s mercifully saved by its location. If the whole place was uprooted, helicoptered into the city centre and dropped in the Wood/Fleet/Seel Street area it would be pounced on by dive bar aficionados and made their own. It contains all the same kinds of polished furniture, intermittent nutters and drinks offers that are found in town’s bars but is placed in the last portion of Smithdown, before everything transforms into the wine bar-ish non-glamour of Allerton Road. Decent enough for a few drinks before heading into town.
