One of the nicest and most decadently delicious ice cream/​milkshake parlours anywhere to be found, Shaky Jakes has a lot going on for it. Whether it’s the impossibly big selection of flavours on offer (anything from apple pie to Cadbury’s Crème Egg and anything inbetween) or the absolutely gorgeous Fifties-​esque diner décor in shades of black, white and hot pink that make you want to curl up on a bar stool with your milkshake of choice and watch the world go by, its definitely a place for a treat — otherwise you’d be in there every day, drinking your body weight in sweet, sweet delight.
The staff are friendly but the real stars are the delicious treats they concoct — get yourself down to Shaky’s as soon as you can and prepare to experience a superb shake that’ll knock your socks (darned bobby socks naturally!) right off.

Popped in for a refreshing Milkshakes on Sunday to help me through the scorcheroo weather! Was quite surprised to see them open on a Sunday but will bank this knowledge for future reference!
The choice always blows me away, I take ages to make up my mind and always think afterwards that I should have tried a different flavour!
I’ve never been disappointed with my selection though and this visit did not let me down either
Cadbury crème egg bar milkshake! Delish!
Just the right side of thickness and coldness to refresh without giving me brain freeze! The Mr had Hershey’s in his and although nice– was too grainy for me.
The menu is awesome here and every candy lovers paradise.
I didn’t notice Hot Dogs and Waffles on my last visit so not sure if they are new but definitely would try them if the yummy milkshakes are anything to go by.
Service was a bit slow which is why I gave 4 stars but taste and quality of ingredients are fab.
Definitely put Shaky Jakes on your ‘To do’ list!

I got a large Reece’s peanut butter cups shake and honestly it wasn’t that chocolatey– we shared between two of us and were both disappointed. We also got a waffle that is freshly made on site– however it was really thin & small, pretty disappointing again to be honest. Plus their brownie topping is bought from Sainsburys and I just felt like I could have made something nicer at home! Maybe a smaller shake would have been a bit stronger tasting & avoiding the waffles next time. They also do fro yo but the machine looked pretty sketch & small, better to go to Moo Frozen Yoghurt up the road by Salvos’!

S O S L O W. Don’t get me wrong, the product is great, and almost worth the wait, but theres never enough staff on, esp on Saturdays, and they can only do one shake at a time it seems. They’re nice enough people, but if someone orders a waffle you’re stymied Come on Jake, get more staff you’re shakes are fab!!! a bit more seating would help too. But I love you.

I actually have to actively avoid this place because if I didn’t I’d be in there every day guzzling a different flavour of delicious milkshake every time and putting on approximately fifty stone.
As others have said, if you can think of a flavour/​chocolate bar/​sweet/​cereal/​drink then they probably do it in milkshake form. And it’s proper milkshake too, they chuck the chocolate bar or whatever of your choice in a blender with some ice-​cream and milk, none of this artificial flavouring rubbish. SO GOOD.
The décor’s cool too, 50s diner-​style with some seats and lots of cool flyers to look at while they make your shake. The only criticisms I could possibly dredge up are that it’s a little pricey (but worth it really), and the staff are a bit indifferent which detracts from the atmosphere. But once you’ve got your ridiculously tasty milkshake you won’t care anyway…

This place is quite literally awesome delicious milk-​shaky heaven. Fact. I first came here with my Dad to show him around Headingley, and this lovely retro diner style milk shake bar had just opened. We went in and stood dumbfounded for a while — I don’t think the staff quite cottoned on to the fact that they had the two most indecisive people on the continent in their store!
So, the menu board. Ok, you’ve got to prepare yourself if you’ve any hint of indecision in your bones. It’s like option over-​kill. They. Do. ANY. Flavour. Srsly — anything! O HAI Caramac bar flavour, from my distant youth — I think you can be my flavour this time! Liked Sherbert Fountains as a child? They’ll make you one up no problem — with or without the liquorice. Having a hankering for some Turkish Delight flavoured milky goodness? Full of eastern promise I tells ya. Nothing quite as sweet as your ol’ Grandpa’s Werthers? This milkshake will be.
Talk about the Kings of Yum-​town. Slobber-​licious. *Lays back and drools over the memory of the milkshake*
Only troublesome factor is the choice. So be prepared. And take heed of Karm’s review; buy some stretchy pants. Thems be packin’ some calories!

Pick a chocolate bar, cake, candy, sauce, topping, or a little bit of all… mix it up in a blender with some ‘nilla ice cream and sip all the pain of your day away. With over a hundred choices and even more when you combine them, you’ll never have a bad day with Shaky Jakes… until you realize you can’t button up them pants.
Situated near my place in Headingly, SJ’s makes it worth not living close to campus so you could walk them calories away… or gain them back when you walk back from a hard day at Uni… your choice.
Coffee and Nutella combo… WOW.
Oh and I guess there are some healthy smoothies here too… but seriously… why when you got SWEETS to choose from? you can now walk away and slap yourself. thanks.

Okay four stars is harsh, but they lose one for helping me put on weight and not being able to go a day without thinking about a milkshake from here.
It’s such a cool idea and before I moved to Leeds I hadn’t even heard of such a concept. As mentioned about a billion times, you choose a chocolate bar, or sweet, my friend had strawberry laces in hers, Yuk and they do all the rest, add milk and ice cream. I tend to go for a normal chocolate bar like Galaxy for a nice smooth chocolate milkshake.
For a milkshake I guess it’s pretty pricey, but it doesn’t even come into mind, as they are so damn good.
Another feature which is great about them, if you’re a super lazy student with a houseful of thirsty friends, so long as you order over 6 milkshakes they will deliver to you! How much better can it get?
This shop is perfectly located in Headingly and is near all the shops and cafes that students frequent. I highly recommend you pop along to Shaky Jakes to try out one of their famous milkshakes; they are certainly worth the calories.

This is fast becoming my fave hang out. Shakey Jakes is a 50’s style milkshake bar. They sell just about any flavour of milkshake you can imagine.
Staff told my there most popular milkshake is Oreo which I had to sample. A regular shake is £2.60 large is £3.10.
My personal favorite is ferrero rocher it is simple divine and tastes heavenly. All milkshakes are listed on a chalk board behind the till. It took my a while on my first visit to take in all the flavours and I had mint areo and it was lovely.
Staff are nice too and there is seating inside and out. Parking is a problem in Headingly it does get very busy on the streets around and about.

Great idea, well executed 50’s americana. Unfortunately coupled with Soviet-​era customer service with a scowl at least going in with a small child. Perhaps it was naïve to expect a milkshake bar to be child-​friendly.

Holy cow what an awesome idea. Again apologies for cow and milk references. Can’t help myself. But back to the point, Holy cow what an awesome idea. To even begin to describe or list the sheer amount of varieties or ingredients that Shaky Jakes can and will provide in your milkshake at your request, on here, would render both you and I exhausted or insane from working out the endless combinations for your milkshake needs. If you can’t be bothered to create a concoction, then there are a list of specials and house shakes to choose from should the ingredients take your fancy. As long as you don’t pick too many contrasting flavours, then your tastebuds are surely in for a treat. Regular milkshakes will set you back £2.60 and large £3.10. House milkshakes are about £3.30, and you pay extra for toppings or addons. It’s a simple idea that works really well. Take a mate and indulge together, or stop by of a morning for a power shake of cereal proportions, or just make no excuses and dive in for a super cup of frothy milky tasty yum.

Shaky Jakes is a brilliant idea. However much you try to deny it, without touching on any matter to do with obesity, or healthy eating, they haven’t missed a trick.
An American diner style milkshake bar, complete with the staff dressed in pretty awful pink uniforms, they have a display of just about every chocolate bar, sweet, biscuit, item of miscellaneous confectionary you can imagine. You choose the item you want, and they do the rest. With their über-​blenders, they blitz up whatever you fancy into a milkshake version of whatever it is you chose. You can add jelly tots, and other syrup toppings, and can even just opt for a real fruit milkshake instead, though I doubt it’ll be any more healthy!
I once asked whether you could bring your own chocolate in (if they didn’t-which is unlikely) have it behind the counter. They said yes.

Any chocolate bar, sweet or desert blended straight into a creamy, frothy milkshake. Not only can one choose from a variety of scrummy flavors but pick from 100’s of sauces, toppings and fruit to create a personalized milkshake treat.
Girls.the menu is to die for! Daily, women hoard around the menu reading shake flavours such as «Apple Pie and Custard», «Cadbury’s Curly Wurly» and «Blueberry Muffin» aloud while making MMMMM and OOOOH noises. Blokes are not forgotten. While the ladies oggle loudly over the tasty combination’s, men argue over the best flavours and who’s going to have the largest size shake. Which to be honest at £3 every customer should have anyway.
Situated in the heart of Headingley (Leeds), vintage sweetie styled Shakey Jakes is perfectly located to nip in and out for a quick guilty pleasure!

And Shakey Jakes will whip it up into a milkshake for you. Even the most educated chocolate bar-​connoisseur would be hard pushed to find a bar not on Jakes’ menu. They’re all there, old or new, and they’re all used, with a mixture of milk, ice cream, biscuits, syrup and real fruit, to create sumptuous milkshakes.
Galaxy. Bueno. Wispa. Yorkie. Even Battenburg. The menu is ridiculously extensive, and for a large milkshake of any variety, you will pay the reasonable sum of around £3. New businesses akin to Jakes are springing up all over the place, as custom-​made milkshakes become more and more popular. I have tried a couple of other places along the same lines as Jakes, but because of the effort and creativty of Jakes (along with the classy 1950s retro décor), nowhere comes close.

When I lived in Leeds’ studentsville known as Headingley in 2000 I thought it had everything a suburb could wish for. In fact I thought that independent businesses were on the way out… thankfully Shaky Jakes and its 200+ flavours has come along recently to prove me wrong. They can be seen out often in a cow costume with promo offers in the local area. The customer service is great and the staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful in this 1950’s style old school milkshake bar.
Making milkshakes out of popular chocolate bars like Milkybars, Aeron, Twix or KitKat. They use the products to make the milkshakes, so it isn’t like the boring mars bar milk you find in pertol station refridgeorators. Cereal flavours are popular too with Frosties, Coco pops or even Weetabix available.
Prefer your shake or smoothie to be fruity? Then try pineapple, banana or peach amongst others. Cakes and desserts are on the menu too. I would reccommend coming here for dessert. Skip dessert elsewhere and get a dessert flavour shake like apple pie, chocolate brownie or carrot cake? Biscuits like jaffa cakes or custard creams are part of the 200+ flavours too. Or maybe that sweet tooth is pining for sweets like black jacks, or cola bottles. Anyone for a mikshake flavoured with refeshers or parma violets?
Shaky Jakes is great for groups or parties, awesome as a treat for well-​behaved children. I would have been good for mum if promised a trip here when I was a child. Its main trade is of course take-​away, and they have some lovely outdoor seating. Superbly unlike other cafes and milkshake outlets I have encountered before they do delivery on orders and can be booked for outside catering.

So if your in Headingley, beacuase maybe you live there or you are visiting a student friend or family member, or you are heading turn North Lane to the Rugby or cricket ground to watch the Tykes, Rhinos or Yorkshire, I would ot be the only person to suggest you drop into shakyjakes to try a milkshake like you have never had before.

Shaky Jakes is an amazing milkshake parlour where the world of sweet shop meets ice cream parlour with beautiful results. Pick a sweet, any sweet, or in fact a biscuit, or dessert, or even cereal, and they will blend it into a milkshake for you. I would recommend the Fry’s Turkish Delight shake. An astounding array of flavours and very reasonably priced compared to other places. Cheaper than a big name coffee shopoh, and they stock and ordinary coffee too, just in case the milkshake doesn’t do it for you. If you fancy a healthier option then juices and smoothies are also available, as are small bags of pick and mix, just in case you don’t fancy the healthier option!
