I love this little butchers, tucked away and unassuming it tends to create quite a cue outside some mornings. The butchers themselves are super friendly and helpful. When I went it for some lamb shoulder they asked if it wanted it de-​boned and offered some rosemary to go with it, you just wouldn’t get that service at a supermarket. It’s all pretty cheap as well and they have practically all the cuts you could want and a nice range of chutneys and sauces to accompany. I got some lambs kidneys the other day and they were under a pound for two.

Thanks to Runcible’s review, I went here yesterday and bought two juicy 10oz sirloins for £11. I’m clueless when it comes to steaks, so I just asked the moustachio’d chap behind the counter what he’d suggest, and it resulted in the tastiest steak I’ve ever cooked. Melt in the mouth it was. And that’s not because I’m a particularly good cook

There is no doubt in my mind that THIS is the best butcher in Leeds, if not Yorkshire, and he’s certainly one of the best in the country. It may look like many other butchers but the quality of the meat Richard Setchfield sells is absolutely outstanding. He sources everything very carefully from selected farms and only sells cuts he is happy with. You’ll find him large and cheerful behind the counter almost all the time. At Christmas the queues outside this place are huge and he opens very early to cope with it. So place your orders well in advance if you want a turkey, duck or goose.
And listen to Richard’s advice as he knows what he’s doing. On some occasions he’s talked me out of buying an expensive cut of meat if he thinks what I’m cooking would be better off with something cheaper. The usual tasty selection of sauces and condiments are available here (nice eggs too) but it’s the meat that makes this place so special. I am so glad someone tipped me off to the delicious meat here. Check it out — you won’t be disappointed.
