Leeds College of Art

It was the Summer of 1983 and this boy here from Fort Worth’s Texas Christian University took the advice of his academic advisor (among others) to spend a summer. What I was in store for was a wonderful experience. The summer program enhanced my education to where I have found my talent in the fine arts, of which I always thought that I needed development upon.
Oh I will forever cherish the Summer of 1983!!!

Not a student but I’ve dealt with the college a few times (as an exhibitor and as a speaker). It’s a great place with engaged students and engaging instructors who really care. Every dealing I’ve had with staff has been a pleasure. With a notable alumni list which includes Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Damien Hirst, it’s a force to be reckoned with in the British art world and a place worth considering if you want to study art or design.

Leeds College of Art offers degree courses, A-​levels, Access courses, Art Foundation and Foundation degrees (separate things apparently) and evening classes in everything art or design related. I did the Access course there in Art and Design. They have great facilities and workshop areas for things like ceramics, printmaking, film-​making, and there is always an technician on stand-​by. Sometimes I was able to get one-​on-​one attention from a technician when I came up with grand plans to cast un-​castable objects because I basically didn’t know what it would involve. I did appreciate this at the time but only fully appreciate it in retrospect as I don’t have those kinds of facilities any more. I have heard from friends on the course who have gone on to do degrees and other universities that many art departments do not have any where near a much equipment or tutor support as we did at Leeds College of Art.

Is a centre of excellence in terms of what it offers and the avenues and personal inspiration it allows you to take — from what I’ve heard anyway.
Full-​time and part-​time courses, degrees, BTEC and access courses from all sections of the artistic creative side of education: interior design, fashion, graphic design, fine art and furniture making. This is a suburb centre to develop and hone your skills.
