I must confess to being a bit of an anti-card giver, and if I absolutely have to get a card to save face, I’ll usually check out the cheap shops for something that won’t make me feel like I took a fiver and shoved it into the nearest letterbox *cough* Clinton Cards!*cough* That said, if a card really stands out to me, and I know the person will actually keep it around for a while before chucking it in the bin, I will venture away from the beaten path and see what Bayliffe and Lupton has to offer. There’s a whole range of lovely cards in here, from layered craft cards and vintage cards to cute glittery cards and plush cards. Every now and then you see a card you like so much you would actually hang on to it, maybe even frame it(don’t laugh, my boyfriend got a card for me from here once and I did indeed frame it!) which for certain occasions, makes it worth the extra quid or so.

The Merrion Centre has such a funny mix of shops! Many of them are a bit ‘cheap & nasty’ but then there are little gems hidden in there too. Bayliffe & Lupton is one such gem… I’m quite a fan of buying really nice greetings cards for special friends and family, and this really is the shop to do it in. It’s not cheap by any means, you’re looking at around £2.25 per card for most of the cards. Although there is stuff in there for those on a tighter budget, to be honest that’s not what I go in there for — if I’m after a cheap and cheerful card I’d probably go elsewhere, but for a card for someone special, or that’s a bit different from your run of the mill high street card store fayre, then this is the perfect place. There’s lovely arty handmade cards, cute character cards like Hello Kitty, quality funny cards, cards with some beautiful photography, you name it. There are some great little gifts in there too. So if you’re looking for something a little bit different to give to someone special, then I’d highly recommend you check it out.
