Valerio’s Fish & Chips

I haven’t been to Valerio’s in a long, long time. I’d had a few issues with them in the past and the weird boxes they used to use. After a long and (relatively) stress free parents night the need for food was strong.
Valerio’s was the obvious choice. Well, it was the closest chippy to the school anyway.
With everything being cooked fresh to order, it did take about 10 minutes for our order to be filled, but yeah, totally worth it.
I had a black pudding supper — which came with THREE individual black puddings covered in lovely, crisp, fresh batter and chips that were glorious. Seriously. I’ll even overlook the fact that I wasn’t asked if I wanted salt and vinegar on the food… it was busy, and a big queue had formed.
The boy had a fine mini fish supper, he enjoyed it immensely, The fish batter sounded nice and crispy and if his chips were as tasty as mine, then hey, he’d be fine.
Ebis has held the «Lanark’s best chippy» crown for many a day now. Given my last unsatisfactory dabbling with them, I think there is a new king of chips in Lanark.

From the outside this looks really nice and inviting, especially when it’s raining. However, when I went in the door I tripped on the rug just inside and fell. As someone who already suffers from serious back pain, I was highly unimpressed when one of the staff stated, «It happens all the time.» I was even less impressed when not one member of staff bothered to ask me if I was okay. So be extremely careful when entering this establishment. It took several comments from one of my companions before anyone came out to ask if I was ok. I am not even convinced this was written in the accident book.
Once inside the food itself was ok but nothing startling. In fact nothing about this café made me consider returning to it.
In August 2010 I returned to Valerios as it was the closest to where I was and I needed to sit down. Although the décor was still very much the same I have to say the food and drink was well worth having. Only problem was that they only offer full fat coffee but for a Fish n Chip shop this is nothing unusual. The place is still kept very clean and I avoided going in the main doors so I wouldn’t trip this time. It was also very busy which is always a good sign!
