During my recent FIFE coastal road trip and on my way to Kinross along the A911, I passed a sign post that said«Burleigh Sands» and I could not pass without checking out what it entailed. There is a small car park(free I guess) and from the car park I walked towards Loch Leven onto Burleigh Sands. The view across the lake and towards Lomond Hills, Loch Leven Castle and other surrounding landmarks are stunning. Apparently there exists a Heritage Trail, which you can walk at your own time, starting in Kinross, passing Burleigh Sands and ends near Loch Leven Lodge where you might enjoy a drink after a long walk. I believe the car park is also useful to visit nearby Burleigh Castle(its about a ¾ mile walk through grass and woodland). Somehow the lake reminds me of all the King Arthur and Merlin stories and about Excalibur that was thrown into a lake… and might, one day, return to its rightful owner :-) I will definitely be back for a long walk in the summer.

Located on the Loch Leven Heritage trail, Burleigh Sands offers beautiful panaramic views of Loch Leven and the surrounding hills. After parking at the free car park, visitors can walk through the native scots pine woodland to a stunning tranquil beach with spectacular views of the Loch Leven Basin. Accessible to bikes and wheelchairs(with free electric wheelchairs available for hire from Loch Leven Larder), Burleigh Sands is the perfect location for picnicing, dog-walking, cycling, or simply getting out into the countryside. As a national nature reserve, Loch Leven plays host to a large diversity of birds, including geese, ospreys, and recently a sea eagle. If you have an interest in bird-watching, Burleigh Sands has a specially constructed bird hide that reaches out over the loch– allowing an excellent view of the large flocks of geese that migrate to the loch in the winter months.
