A wonderful selection of cakes and sweets. But they also make a great brunch. I am never disappointed. Monmouth coffee too. Very small and cosy café right across the street from Tesco.

Couldn’t be a bigger fan of this place. Cakes to die for — they’re huge, and very shareable, brilliant food, strong flat whites… one of the best cafés in the area. I really like their breakfast/brunch food, though. I popped in the other day for a quick cup of tea and wound up accidentally having some sweet potato hash with chorizo, roast cherry tomatoes and a poached egg. One of the best accidents I’ve made in ages. To be recommended. And very kid-friendly, which is a plus.

I’m suspicious that Treacle & Co sold their souls in exchange for cake recipes. They are heavenly! The only disappointment was that I couldn’t eat them all in one sitting. I ducked in during a rainy spell and didn’t want to leave. More so because I wanted to follow my afternoon tea with an afternoon nap, but I’m not sure that’s encouraged. The tea is served in a metal pot with a charming little cup and strainer. I poured a surprising 3 and bit cups of Earl Grey from mine which was a result for just over £2. The carrot cake deserves a review of its own. It’s own shop in fact. Maybe a perfume line and a reality TV show. It’s that good. Moist, light, sweet, creamy, moreish — you can taste the delicious homemade expertise in every crumb. I also stole a few forkfuls of chocolate & orange cake from my companion. Not for the faint-hearted, it’s as rich as it is zesty. The portions are also generous. We were unable to finish either slice which is usually unheard of from us! I rounded off with a lovely glass bottle of rose lemonade which was a refreshing palate cleanser. I really can’t wait to go back and try more cakes… and the homemade ice cream… and the lunch menu… and perhaps a milkshake… Also, kudos to our waiter for his exceptional beard growing skills.

Ordered my son’s 1st birthday cake, the chocolate and beet root cake and OMG, easily the best cake I have had in a very long time. All our guests commented on how yummy it was. Will definitely be back.

The cakes are nice, not exceptional but OK. The BIG problem with this place is the unbelievably rude staff. Supercilious, cooler-than-thou, just horrible. I felt really unwelcome. It’s a tea shop. Get over yourselves.

Let me preface this review by saying I’m not really a sweet fan. However, the desserts I had were tasty. I was more disappointed with the tea. I would think that somewhere that specialises in desserts and tea would serve tea(in a huge teapot) properly but apparently not. By the time you get to the end of the teapot(I always order green tea) your tea is extremely bitter and less balanced in flavour. Moral of the Story: Eat the desserts. Skip the tea.

Great cakes. The little ones with salt caramel are truly wicked.

Outstanding in all respects. The coffees are perfectly made and beautifully presented. I had a BLT with sausage and mustard which was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Not sure what sort of mustard/sauce they used, but it was savory perfection. The atmosphere is charming and friendly, as are the servers. A definite must-try.

This is a really sweet little café, with beautiful décor, mismatched vintage crockery and exciting and tasty cakes. I’m much happier bringing friends here than most of the other coffee shops nearby(especially the chains!). The baileys chocolate tart is especially wonderful on the palate. The only thing I’d say is that the take-away prices for a slice of cake are pretty high. perhaps this is necessary? but it can make me cringe when they tot up my take away treats! Still delicious cakes and good to support a local business like this.

This wonderful little shop sells the best cake I’ve ever eaten. I think it’s fair to say that I have something of a sweet tooth so I count myself as an expert on such matters. Fantastic coffee too. Part of me wants to jealously guard this secret place, but it’s just to good not to share! If you have a craving for chocolate cake, do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.

I’m so pleased I found this café and didn’t head into one of the chains nearby. The staff are very friendly. There is background music, and I wish there wasn’t, but it’s not too loud. The coffee is superb, and I always like to be asked how many shots I need when I’m planning on a strong Americano. Apart from Red Roaster in Brighton, this is the best coffee I’ve had in the region. There is a stunning display of cakes, including my choice, which was bakewell tart. This was the best I’ve had and was served warm(still slightly crispy) with fresh cream and fruit. They do breakfasts and lunches. Most impressive.

Be instantly transported back to pre 1950s with Treacle & Co’s tea and cake. They also serve a good lunch and the prices are really reasonable. It is simple but tasty fare such as fried egg on toast with roasted vine tomatoes. The cake menu is pretty special and if you have ever enoyed a cake Igigi or Metrodeco you will love coming here as this is the baker’s establishment. Join their Facebook page and you will be updated with their latest menu and special notices such as home made ice cream or rose hot chocolate! If you go during rush hour, do be patient as there is usually only one person serving and taking orders so make sure you have time to spare.

This place sells the most amazing selection of cakes I have ever seen. Amazing coffee and tea as well. But the cakes! The cakes… they’re divine. So many different kinds. And the décor is pretty cool as well, really unique, homely, could easily spend a whole afternoon in there… Fabulous place.

OMG — The best carrot cake I have ever eaten! Treacle&Co is a is a relatively new-ish cake shop just opposite Tesco on Church Road. It opened in the summer when many similar businesses seem to be closing at a rapid rate, but this one has staying power my friends! Its nearly always bursting at the seams but the lovely owner will do her best to accommodate everyone. It has an amazing selection of cakes, all homemade, as well as a fine selection of teas and a limited lunch menu including homemade soups, cheese and eggs on toast etc. I had a lovely ginger tea which complemented to delicious carrot cake amazingly well, and surely un-did some of the damage, right? The carrot cake was full of nuts and raisons, as well as carrot obviously, and deliciously moist, and the cream cheese topping was sweet and creamy — an amazing combination. The décor was delightful too — a mish-mash of old and new, beautiful crockery, and table decorations including an amazingly kitsch cat shaped lamp that I really wanted to steal! Many of the items seemed handmade, including the ceiling decoration made of old-fashioned kitchen utensils. Really nice details and a comfortable bygone-era tea shop feel. The lady owner was very friendly and happy to chat even though she was obviously very busy. This place is a real find. And did I mention the carrot cake???
