Best to go early morning or late at night to get reduced items, as the Co-​op is very expensive unless there are items you need that are on special — bogof etc.

The Co Op is the only supermarket in Houghton-​le-​Spring and is ok if you are in a hurry or don’t have time to go to another larger store like Tesco in Durham. However, the prices are very expensive especially for fruit and vegetables which can be bought in the main street in the local fruit shops for a lot less and better, fresher quality. Sometimes they have good bogof offers on which can save you a bit of money but in general it is an expensive store.
The shelves are usually well stocked and the staff are helpful if you need to find something.
