As far as independent bookshops go, Lingham’s is just the best. It has a real warm feel to it and the staff are really friendly and helpful. You can also enjoy a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake in the café located at the rear of the shop.

Good to see a small business staying on the high street. Well read-staff, which isn’t always the case. Also they help out locally be selling tickets for the local amateur theatre performances.

I love this little book shop company. I’ve been in the one in West Kirby as well. The staff seem very attentive and friendly. It reminds me of the movie You’ve Got Mail. This particular Linghams has a very nice café in the back. I was really impressed by the layout and style of the café. It looks very homey, yet posh with dark wood round tables and a long bar, behind which are arranged all sorts of yummy looking teas, coffees, and even some potted jams for sale if I remember correctly. There is a great children’s area which includes some small toys and plushies for sale as well as books, and I really like the local books section, as well as the poetry section as you will find some local authors in both including poetry chapbooks. Great shop.

I love bookshops and Lingham’s is no exception. With a beautifully traditional exterior and interior, I can’t help but wander inside for a peruse at the shelves stacked high with novels. Whilst reading it’s obviously essential to indulge in a treat orf some sort, and Lingham’s has a glorious little café which allows you to do just that. Service is efficient and the place has a really nice atmosphere as it’s obviously very well cared for. Lingham’s is moderately priced, probably charging around the same as Waterstones without the competitive book offers WHSmith have often. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and want a cake and a new book.

Linghams Heswall is the original of the two Wirral based independent bookshops, and indeed the best! There is a great intellectual atmosphere within this bookshop, one unrivalled by larger chain stores such as Borders and Waterstones. It’s as though all the staff have been vetted for their intelligence and knowledge before being allowed on the shop floor, rather than just handed a job because they’re prepared to work for minimum wage. Linghams has been in Heswall over 20 years and continues to thrive as the local community support the store! They have a great little café serving homemade delicacies towards the back of the store, and they can order any book with an ISBN number. The only problem is, you’ll probably find any book that they sell much cheaper on the internet. I guess that’s why even the bigger bookshops are in decline. Long live Linghams! They have all the sections you’d expect to see in a huge book store!

I cannot really have any complaint about Linghams, always a good selection of current literature, and strong on non-fiction too. If they dont have what you want, they usually get it pretty quickly, and service with a smile too

Nice boookshop, well laid out and easy to locate what you’re after. The staff are great, really knowlegable and able to answer your questions. There is no scowling from the staff if you’re having a browse(or a sneaky read!) they are more than happy for you to take your time! At the rear of the bookshop is a lovely, cosy coffee shop also serving cakes and light snacks. For the children there is a ‘Kids’ menu, serving things like mini pizza, nuggets etc. Their milkshakes are divine — especially the Malteaser one! great place to meet with friends.

This is a lovely bookshop to browse. It has a distinctive smell of lovely new books! It is an independent book shop, and they do try and keep up with the big stores on big release events such as Harry Potter. Check their website for special events, on the Harry Potter release they had a big potter party before the book release. There is a small café now in the back of the shop which just makes browsing even more enjoyable. Well worth a visit. Only issue is parking as with anywhere in Heswaal, it can be a bit of a nightmare!

Traditional bookshop offering excellent personal service. Books out of stock are obtained quickly and efficiently, with a follow-up call to advise the customer when to collect. Good environment for browsing and an excellent coffee shop. Worth a visit, could easily lose a couple of hours in there! Linghams also have a branch in nearby West Kirby. Dinky little parking area outside, if you’re lucky!

This shop is what you would expect from a good independant book store. The coffee shop is a nice place to relax whilst having a look around Heswall. The staff in the shop can’t do enough for you, there is a good selection of books about the local area and this is a great place to take youngsters as an excellent selection of childrens books. Some lovely little nic nac’s too.

Independent bookshop with coffee shop. Staff are helpful — the shop has a nice ambience and there is a good children’s section. Inevitably a smaller selection than Amazon Waterstones and Borders but a nicer way to shop for books.
