Run out of cider. Run out of lager. Extremely bland chili — with courtesy nostril hair in. You be the judge.

Good food. Good atmosphere. Parking is a bit cramped but at least it exists! Nice options for vegetarians. OK wine list. But we really didn’t appreciate what we took as persistent up-sell tactics. We left feeling over-fed and feeling sorry that we had stepped through the door in the first place. It is likely that we will return to give it another chance, bit we will be looking out for their sales techniques…

Relaunched and great. The Anchor is now under new management and is transformed. One of the best(but not the best) pubs in henley. Good food, friendly staff and large Proseccos. Compare the buzz in here to when it was run by the previous tenants.

Under new management The Anchor opened last week under a new landlord. The whole place has been decorated and refurbished and there is not a trace of the previous incarnation. It has not lost its old charm but is complemented but new natural colours, flooring and furniture. The staff are pleasant and seem to be settling in well and the range of beer and wine are good. I will be back and it is nice to see this lovley building revived after many years of neglet

Where to start, only wish we had seen these reviews before we entered… THEANCHOR! Landlord sat in his armchair reading paper when we walked in n said«what do you want?»… charming! And it all went downhill from there. Dirty, run down,(looks like someone’s front room), rude landlord, sell burgers but no chips… the list goes on! Only positve point is that the dog that welcomes you has more people skills than the owners, only wish we could have rescued him :(

Nothing done to welcome us despite having booked — in fact when I booked there was some swearing to be heard in the back ground and a bit of a strop when I wanted to change the booking by 30 mins. I thought the drinks were pricey. £14 for a bottle of indifferent Crianza. Having said that the food was very nicely prepared and certainly not mass produced. The fish pie seemed to be lacking most of its potato topping, and the Morroccan lamb contained water chestnuts. We were unable to have desserts becaus the kitchen closed — so we didnt buy coffess and another round of drinks.

I went into this establishment tonite and got, somewhat strangely, interogated by the landlord. He wanted me to explain why i was in the Balkhans in the 90’s — er, none of your buisness right? Photographing dead geezers mate — OK? Drinks are expensive — even for the ‘europeran’ measure that that offer — is it legal? The whole place has a slightly musty odore — or is that ‘o’deour’???
