I used to work in the sun chip shop and It was the worst experience of my life. They do not care about customers or workers as I was the only women working there and I left due to harassment, the staff talking about me in their own language making me feel very uncomfortable. They were also perverted even though the 2 bosses are married. They under paid me and forgot to pay me countless times and I had to go through the embarrassment of asking for my wage. I will never buy from this shop again. Sleazy men who washed their hands in the potato water then fried the potato chips and serving to customers which is vile. Honest opinion, do not buy from this chip shop, there are plenty more better ones in helensburgh.

I have to say I used to eat here all the time on my Helensburgh trip but the big guy who ran it moved to The PAlace on the front — taking the food and best of staff with him! The grumpy goose in charge now would do well to smile a little — but the food is edible. Its not of the standard it was but its worth a visit if the Palace is queued out as it usually is at weekends. Have to say though the turkish staff could stop talking in front of customers the way they do as its a little off putting!

The Sun is my local chippy when I go visiting my relatives in these parts — I have to pass it by en route to her home, so it never fails to draw me in. The menu and prices haven’t changed in years — it’s comforting, especially for my wallet! For under a fiver you can stuff your face full of a tasty fish supper, complete with a roll for your chips and a pickle on the side. This is the style of chip shop where the fries are fat and flavoured, absorbing as much salt and vinegar as you want! They also do a mean pizza with a wide variety of toppings available. I’m pretty sure I managed to get a seafood pizza a while back with anchovies diced all over it and I remember it being very tasty indeed. The staff are full of banter and it’s got that local, welcoming feel. The Sun is set in the middle of Helensburgh and offers a delivery service so you needn’t worry since it’s never far away! However, if you fancy burning off some calories before you digest your deep fried nibbles, it’s only a few short blocks up from the shoreline so I’d suggest the trek little up the hill, a saunter back along the beach with your bag of chips and a pat to yourself on the back for exercising while treating yourself!

had read about this place, that it had been short listed for the west of scotland area in the chip shop of the year, so when i found myself in helensburgh i couldnt resist a fish supper well to say i was dissapointed is an understatement. the trick to a good fish is the batter and this really let down this shop, rather than being crispy it was hard and very flat, and when you tried to eat the fish the batter came away in large lumps leaving fish behind, it really must be something about west coast chippies, they really dont do good batter, where as east coast tend to make much better crispier batter the chips were reasonable but hardly top class all in all very dissapointing

The food is ok, but the staff are surly and unfriendly. Another problem is that if you are waiting in the shop and someone phones in to have food sent out by taxi, they are served first. So it is a long wait in an unpleasant atmosphere. I usually go to the Lido, much better.

A good place to stop for a chippy take away. The food is fresh and they often cook your order for you when you order it. The main problem is that there is not much parking outside and its on a really busy main crossroad intersection. There are a few chipshops in the town and apart from The Palace this is the best one.

Lovely Food and very friendly staff. Best treatment we had in Helensburgh. Worth the move away from the seafront.
