The Tai Kar is a great place to come for Chinese food if you want to sample a good range of Chinese cuisine without having to pay through the nose. Their set menu is very expansive and comes in at £11 per head for starters and main courses. They also add in aromatic duck or lamb for a extra couple of quid. What makes this such a good deal is the range of dishes available. Some places who offer the same kind of eat as much as you like deal will limit the menu, but here you get king prawns dishes and chicken breast as standard. They can be a bit reluctant to offer more than 1 round of starters, but if you stick to your guns they will bring out more than the obligatory 1 round. Of the main courses the sizzling dishes stand out from the crowd and the overall quality of the food is great. The drinks menu is pretty well rounded, but they will try and fill your glasses quickly to encourage additional wet sales. I would say that this is one of the best Chinese places to eat at in the town. Highly recommended.

This is a great little Chinese restaurant specialising in Peking and Cantonese cuisine and everyting is cooked to an extremely high standard. Now I’m not usually a fan of the whole ‘all you can eat’ option as I don’t have a huge appetite at the best of times and it usually means the food is pretty sub-standard but this place is the exception to the rule. For £11 you get as many fantastic starters as you can shovel onto your plate and for an extra £2 you can order some crispy duck or my favourite, the crispy lamb. The staff are really helpful and friendly and the drinks are offered as soon as your glass is empty. The house wine is excellent value for money and not bad at all. Say goodbye to the diet!
