Big Space

Large, well run indoor Children’s play area for ages up to 12. Situated in an idustrial unit. It has the usual soft play areas and slides and also a pool tablke and PlayStation. compared to most this is always well maintained and clean. There is a large sitting area for parents, with a choice of sofas and armchairs, or the plastic café style table and chairs. The food and drink offering is also very good, with the usual child friendly snacks, but it is also somewhere you can get a decent coffee and offers free wifi aswell. Only downside is the car parking, it is very small. Not a problem at the weekend, but during schools holidays the other units frown upon parents parking in their car parks. It is open everyday except Wednesday. It also runs after school and holiday clubs, and runs special mornings for toddlers during school term time.

Big Space is great!
Having been to all the other indoor play areas in Hertfordshire at one time or another in the area with two children, I can say this is the cleanest and largest indoor space.
When do you get time to yourself? Big Space allows you to sit and watch your kids in comfort while having a latte –not just a black coffee or tepid tea! The big lounge chairs remind me of Starbucks — except these are clean — but if you need a table and plastic chairs they are available too.
The parking does get a bit full but then the space is bigger inside than the rest and that’s what you’ll remember.
The equipment is in excellent condition, which is important if my children are going to hang on it. Other places just use gaffa tape when the odd rope cage netting gets worn out.
Another plus are the great slides — a steep freefall one for older kids (and dads!) and a set of wave style ones where you can go down with friends side by side. They also have those super ride on toys — the Didicar that go around a track.
All in all a good place to keep the kids busy (and tire them out!) for many hours while you read/​relax/​sleep (!) or dare I say check your email and browse for some toys at
with their wifi connection.

This is a children’s play centre in a big warehouse type building.
I cannot say that there is anything to recommend this above any other.
However, its is big and clean and children love to play. It has quite a bit of seating, though I have been here during a half term and at times like that it does get busy.
They have a separate room for children’s birthday parties and a party person to help oversee. With the gift bag the children recieved a cup from BigSpace filled with goodies.
They have a baby/​toddler play area and a big playframe for older children.

There is a coffee bar and plenty of lounge seating and also tabled areas. There is a microwave provided to heat baby food etc.
Adults are given a credit type card on entering which they use in the coffee lounge this is then handed in at the end and the bill settled, although I do always manage to spend more than i normally would as I am not paying as I go along.
Positives are that it is free for under 1s and adults don’t pay either. Major negative is that parking is very limited and would be very difficult to get a space during the weekend or school holidays, or if there was a party happening. There is also only one baby changing toilet, with an additional wall mounted stand outside the toilets.
