The Matrix Club is by the station and entered via a courtyard (good for smokers and summer evenings) down the side of The Yarborough Hotel. it used to be a members only club but is now open to all.
The bar has a big screen and is a bit of a barn. No character.
Upstairs has pool tables but on a band night it has a stage and can get packed. Many good local and visiting bands. Recently the Blood Doctors, a London band, went down really well.
Cheap to get in to see a band the drinks are reasonably priced.
Tends to be rather alternate and studenty.
Can be a bit impersonal on an ordinary night although tables, with bench seating around make it good for conversation.
Have had some great nights when bands have been on. Friendly place. No trouble.
