Auld’s does indeed seem out of place here in the quirky west end but it is a very popular member of Great Western Road and offers an alternative to Greggs. A friend of mine who worked in another Auld’s always told me how it was much better than Greggs although I am not convinced as far as sandwiches go. As for the cakes though, it is pretty good and very reasonable. The scones are amazing!
Another much-​needed characteristic is their birthday cakes. You can order from a huge book of personalized cakes for all different sizes, including photo cakes. Ideal for that special birthday!

In the West End and so surrounded by places where people drink organic tea and talk about dolphins, Aulds is a proper old-​style bakery, with pies and sausage rolls that may be a bit pricier than Greggs, but actually taste like they’re homemade and will almost always be warm. I’ve always been a fan of their breakfast rolls, as the bacon is done crispy, and on many occasion have left after a roll and bacon and a roll and black pudding a very satisfied cutomer.
They do great little apple pies as well, which unusually look like tiny, sugary scotch pies. Brilliant.

Auld’s bakery on the corner of Great Western Road and Bank Street seems a little out of place among its neighbours in the West End. Having associated this bakery chain with my hometown (which is a far cry from the bohemian west end), I was almost surprised to see it. However with delicatessens, cheesemongers and patisseries to rival with, this little bakery adds a refreshing and affordable alternative.
As I used to live on Bank Street, I would occasionally pop in on my way home for a treat. As you’d expect there are the usual delights– scones, tea cakes, iced buns, muffins, breads and tea & coffee. It’s mostly used as a takeaway however there are a couple of window seats for you to sit & enjoy your cuppa. The scones are particularly good, and it’s probably why I’ve returned so often.
The coffee isn’t of the same quality as Costa a few doors down however it’s a fraction of the price– and it’s always a good feeling to buy a coffee and cake and not feel like you’re being robbed.
