The Liquor Barn

Let’s be honest, a business called ‘The Liquor Barn’ is going to be pretty good.
Since I have friends on nearby Avenuepark Street, as well as Maryhill Road itself, I’m in here far too often — usually bursting through the door at 9:57, three minutes before the clock strikes the hour.
Thanks to the Licensing Scotland Act, off-​sales can only sell alcohol between 10am and 10pm. It’s a controversial piece of legislation — one which has the power to transform even the most rotund, middle-​aged man into Linford Christie.
This branch does a particularly brisk trade, due to its residential surroundings. There are tonnes of promotions, and the staff also know their stuff. Just don’t expect time to browse. It’s a small shop, and as such, a get in, get out job.
Whatever your tipple, remember to enjoy responsibly (he says, a little worse for wear).. .

With a name that belongs straight from Hicksville Tennessee and has you fully expecting a «no mullet no service» sign in the window this place does a lively trade of cheaply priced bevvy on Maryhill Road.
One of those scary places which sees the you walk into a glass box within the shop and order your alcoholic beverages through a post box to a teller armed with a mean look and even meaner amount of patience, it leaves you wondering if the glass box is there for your protection or their’s.
Anyway, despite the Redneck feel to the name and the Alcatraz nature of the interior this place does offer some pretty good deals on beer which may save you from having to surf the crowds at the nearby Tesco.
