The Craft Pottery

Brilliant fun, and so good to have a city centre location where you can get arty! I visited with my mum as I knew she would love to try a new craft and I was treating her to an early mothers day gift (it would be ready in time as it takes about a week to get the pieces back from firing).
The selection of things to choose to paint was huge… a loft area filled with pretty models! I chose a teapot and cup and my mum chose coasters. We were also drawn to the little penguins, and plantpots, and so on. We spent quite a while choosing and imagining the possibilities for nice decorations for home and garden.
Once we had picked our items we were able to choose from a big range of paint colours, and also see what the colours looked like when fired on a little pre-​prepared pallet, nicely displayed on plates, and if you are creative with the paint layers you can get different effects ranging from watercolour style to deep and bright. When I started painting my pieces I realised that there was a lot more surfaces to paint than I had thought. and that the pottery is super absorbent. it’s sometimes a challenge to remember where you have still to do another layer as the paint dries at different rates so I reckon it will look quite different when fired! I had done 3 layers and then some extra decoration, but all the paint is included so you just ask for a refill if you need it. The staff are so helpful and friendly too.
It is nice that they have a BYOB policy, wine or beer and pottery with a group of friends would be good. They also have a water fountain to fuel your creative thirst, and you can book group sessions, hire the room, try out classes in pottery throwing and pot making, or just turn up to paint! The prices are really reasonable and you can spend as long as you like painting. so excited to see what our things look like when they come back next week. Don’t forget to look at the gift shop before you leave, there are some lovely notebooks and unusual gifts too.
I think we will be back to paint again :)

Ohhhh I love Craft Pottery so much! I’m happy we discovered this place through Unilocal (thanks to Queen B) because I wouldn’t have known of the existence of craft pottery without it!
I’ve been twice now, once for the Unilocal Event and the second time, to make Christmas gifts for my family in Italy! Yes, isn’t it perfect? Painting beautiful things for your family for Christmas! It’s such a nice idea :)
Me and Gian booked for a Saturday evening of painting. They’re quite busy on weekends so best to be sure you have space to paint and call them up beforehand! We were there for 4 hours, being imaginary painters haha it’s £3 per head for unlimited paint and then you just pay for the items you want! It’s also BYOB!
Anyway, we chose 6 medium sized plates, £8 each. I thought it’d be nice to paint on something my family members can use everyday hehe they have many other options though! Ornaments, vases, coasters SO MANY! We were torn between the bowls, plates and mugs! Such lovely canvases to get creative!
The staff members were very kind to us and generous with the amount of paint they provided. They even gave us the previous customers’ paint, so we had like tons of options.
The only thing they need to improve on is a bit of efficiency with contacting their customers about whether the stuff are done baking. They forgot to call me after more than a week when our plates were done and I had to keep contacting them to ask what’s happened!
Other than that, definitely highly recommend! For a friends birthday, a hen party, a children’s play time, or just to have a bonding session with your partner! Super fun and therapeutic! 100% would go back!

The Craft Pottery is a paint-​your-​own-​pottery studio. You simply pick your pieces, paint them, and then pick them up a week later once they have been glazed and fired. They have private rooms available to book — perfect for hen parties, kids parties, baby showers…
There is a huge array of pottery pieces to choose between, from teapots to dog bowls… I decided to paint a feature plate, and had been thinking of painting some sort of family tree picture on the plate. I had been googling for inspiration when I stumbled across a Christmas family plate, and I knew that this was the design I would follow.
I throughly enjoyed painting my plate, and spent a good 2 hours painting 3 coats on to the plate whilst enjoying the company of my fellow Unilocaling friends. It was lovely to do some crafting in adult company, as these days any craft I do tends to be with my toddler (attention span isn’t the best!). I left my plate in the hands of owner Jessica and her colleagues and patiently waited her phone call to say my plate was ready to collect!
Just one week later I got the call and excitedly made my way back to The Craft Pottery to pick up my work of art. Am so pleased with how this turned out, and I can’t wait to use it over the festive period!
If you fancy some paint-​your-​own pottery fun, then I couldn’t recommend The Craft Pottery highly enough. The private rooms are great for parties and the BYOB policy makes for a fun night out, or celebration of a special event, with friends. There is plenty of Christmas stock in at the minute if you fancy some festive painting fun, and if you fancy creating your very own pottery piece they are running hand-​building pottery classes on the first and third Sunday of every month between 6 and 8pm.

This was the Friday night of my dreams. Chilled out, creative and there were chocolates! I had set my heart on painting a toadstool, yeah I’d been on the Unilocal page checking out what I wanted to paint. I am horribly indecisive and need time to make decisions. Unfortunately, there were no toadstools for me to paint — I may have let my disappointment show with fake sobbing and petted lips. In the absence of toadstools I wasn’t short of alternatives, so picked a mug and a bowl.
There were loads of amazing stencils to help you create a beautiful piece of art and the staff were full of hints and tips on how to achieve the best finish. I was surprised by how long it took to do the fiddly bits and layer the paint. I didn’t want to rush and spoil my lovely crockery.
One of the best bits of this event was seeing what the other people were painting. How creative are Unilocalers!!! I loved getting to see other people’s ideas and now have grand plans of returning and stealing all their creativity!
We were told that the pieces would be ready for collection within the week and I got a friendly phone call on the Wednesday to say my bits were ready for collection — unfortunately I’ve not made it in yet but I will do soon, I’m desperate to see how they’ve turned out.
I’m also planning on taking smudge for a wee painting session. I think this is something she would really enjoy and if all goes well it means I’ll get to paint a toadstool!

Ooo-​eeee! This is a cute little place! I knew it had opened as I’ve been following it on social media, but I’m never normally in this part of town. However, on a foray up to the top of the town today I was delighted to stumble upon this place, and went in to have a look around.
I really want to go back! It’s such a simple and charming concept. You choose a piece of blank pottery, they show you how to go about painting it, then you paint it.
They have a great many pieces of pottery to choose from, ranging from mugs, plates and bowls, to piggy banks, picture frames, and other fun items like robots and even skulls!
You pay for the piece of pottery (and prices are very reasonable), and their paint fee is only £3. You can go on your own, or you can go as part of a group, and they have different sized rooms to accomodate different sizes of groups. They have a BYOB policy, with no corkage fee, and I can imagine having lovely social nights here.
I’ve never painted pottery but I would dearly love to give this a go. I can imagine it would appeal to all ages — older people might love the opportunity to do something creative like this that doesn’t require much physical exertion, and it’s bound to appeal to kids, particularly with some of the more fun pieces of pottery, so I can see it being a lovely activity for a whole family to participate in. I also think it would be great for groups of craft minded pals, or even groups of workmates looking for something a bit different to do.
I can see this really taking off at Christmas — they already have penguins, and I’m sure I spotted a snowman, and the person there told me they are likely to start doing workshops too. It would be lovely to make items as gifts, or for yourself to keep.
I have my eye on a shark dish-​sponge holder. I already have a frog, and there’s just something funny about it. I’d love a shark so it has a wee pal.
