Steamer Trading Cookshop

Love it and want to buy everything! It is a bit like Lakelands, as someone said and has so many cool things (sorry I found some branded things cheaper in tk maxx, you guys are still way cooler!) no one really needs but make great gifts. Defo on my xmas gift list for next year (please don’t disappear by then!)

Steamer Trading Cookshop is my go to store for classy culinary gifts. There’s something to catch the discerning eye on every single shelf and if I could I’d be in here spending my hard-​earned on a weekly basis. I know you could pick up some of their stock a bit cheaper elsewhere, but top marks to them for having such an attractively stocked store. It’s a pleasure to be there. Recommended.

We love this place, we really love this place! This is one of those shops in city centre where we go to day dream about things we want vs. things we need. If we’re ever in the area and have some time to kill, we always seem to end up here.
What is not to love about this shop?! Even before you walk in, you are drawn in by all the fun things displayed in the windows that obviously we all need in our homes. Personally, we have our eye on a particular toaster (even though we have one and were given another one as a house warming gift) alas, it’s over £100 for the toaster, so we’ve put that on our pipe dream list… or at least the list of things we could get when we move in to a house (vs. a flat).
Once in and past the security guard, there is no end to the things I want to buy! There are loads of cute quirky things, reliable useful things, mugs, loads of brand names and all sorts of appliances. They even have coffee stations set up with the latest coffee gadgets that are available to test out before you buy. I’ve never had the nerve to go up and make myself a cup of coffee, but it’s there.
We are always drawn towards the back of the shop where all the pots and pans are. We recently bought some copper bottom pots and are always looking for pieces to go with them. Me, I’d love new pans to match… oh, and also a cast iron gill pan. All of these items are in this one shop!
I’ve never actually spoken to any staff in the store, except when buying things, but that’s a basic hi, how are you paying kind of chat. No bother, we make my experience in this shop worth coming back all the time and will be back!

I could browse in here for ages, there’s just so many things to look at! I can’t think of a better place to buy cookware in Glasgow. It’s just more modern and up to date than Lakeland or John Lewis (and I really like both of those shops). I feel like everything in here is beautiful to look at and really useful too. I’ve just bought an Ecoffee cup with a very cool leaf print on it and I know I’m going to use it a lot. I imagine this place has almost everything you’d ever need or want for your kitchen.

Cooking shops, picture perfect showroom perfection. Steamer Trading is no exception. I’ve visited here on numerous occasions. On the first occasion, I said I was looking for teal accessories for my kitchen. Queue the shop assistant showing me anything and everything in the shop that was teal. It was so lovely, I had all the time in the world, a winter Thursday evening and loved the customer service.
Admittedly, some of the products in particular the tubberware, is pricier than Amazon, however you get to see the actual size and buy right there. They have a huge variety of the stuff, both hot and cold tubs. They also have a huge range of Le Creuset items, Kitchen Aid mixers, knives and coffee machines. Downstairs, you will find the cake/​baking area, and even more kitchen stuff.
They also have a monthly prize draw, to win 250 pounds just by buying something!

This is a great idea letting people try knives before you think about buying. Being a chef of 22 years.
I’ll be honest here and offer advice. Only advice to help the shop. Every time a chef or a butcher uses here knife.
It’s sharpened every use. When you let people test your knives, they must get sharpened every use, or you’ll lose the edge.
So when someone tests a knife, it is actually not close as sharp as it should be, and has lost the wow factor of his it cuts. When slicing tomatoes too, they need wiped with a damp cloth.
As the tomato is acidic and can damage the blade if not wiped properly. I see what the shop is trying to do. But if someone tests your knife at its full sharpness, they will buy. Apart from that. It’s a really nice looking shop, that has really helpful friendly staff.
Probably the best knife shop in Glasgow. And compared to the likes of John Lewis. The knives are cheap here compared to others.
If you are looking for a knife for your kitchen public. I will tell you straight up. I’ve been a chef a very long time, and «Shun» is one scary sharp knife. Shun all the way. Globals are not as sharp as they use to be. Why buy a Lada, when you can buy a porche:)

I’ve been in here a few times to sate my kitchen list. Yeah it’s a thing (I hope!) There are lots of cool wee items in between the big ticket items (kitchenaid mixers I’m looking at you!) The wall of mugs is a sight to behold, frankly I had to go downstairs for fear that I’d quickly drain my bank account! Below ground is a veritable cornucopia of utensils, although they’re not all so cheap (£10 for a conical funnel!) Everything’s well laid out & the staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The problem for your average person is that it’s a little pricey for what you get. As Briony said, any savvy shopper can find most’ve the stuff on offer for cheaper online (There’s no £1.99 Gordon Ramsay skill upgrade on offer here.) So unless you’re in the middle of a dinner party emergency (my soufflés just won’t rise in these moulds!) I’d save this place for a browse or a splurge in the sale.

I love this shop. It would probably be one of the first places I would hit in a post lottery winning spending spree. There is a distinct possibility that I could blow an entire lottery win on kitchen aid mixers, spectacularly beautiful crockery for every day of the week and every kitchen gadget I never knew existed, let alone needed.
On my last visit I was shopping for the mother in law’s Christmas present. I was unaware that this was something that comes with the marriage vows — always read the small print kids! I found gorgeous pale green stoneware mixing bowls and managed to pick up a set of four for under £40. Not only solving present buying induced headaches but also gaining me Grandparent points which are useful in that they can be exchanged for babysitting services.
I spoke to a couple of staff members who were lovely; friendly and knowledgable about their stock. However, the stand out was that even the security guard excelled at customer service, offering me help as I juggled four heady bowls to the till. A genuinely pleasing shopping experience, not something I normally find when buying the mother-in-law’s birthday, Christmas or Mother’s day present.

This is a great alternative to Lakeland, which I have shopped at for a number of years. Its convenient location next to Central Station allows me to pop in when I need a last minute cake board, or a massive glass jar for kimchi-​making. There is a great selection of kitchen tools and accoutrements, as well as the beloved Vitamix and KitchenAid. The customer service is not intrusive, but always helpful when you need it.

I’m really glad I’m able to upgrade my review and too add a couple of stars. They have finally opened the basement area of the store which has resolved my only previous issue with the store (it’s overcrowdedness).
The basement contains their crockery section, kitchen gadgets, and baking goods clearing a large volume of space on the ground floor to showcase the knives, coffee machines, small appliances and various other bits and pieces.
The staff are great, nice polite and very knowledgeable.
My only warning should go to steamer trading co head office. Please don’t open a store without finishing it. A lot of my friends weren’t impressed with the store when it opened and felt incomplete.
The finished store is the best cookware store in Scotland without any competition.

At last Glasgow has a quality cookware store! Very impressed at the selection not to mention quality of products on offer. Really lifts mood after seeing too many cheap and nasty shops springing up. Congratulations to Steamer Trading Company and their friendly staff!

This shop is lovely, they have lots of lovely gadgets for you to ooh and aah at. For me it is a cross between Papyrus and Lakeland so they have cute nice to have things as well as more essential items. I personally am lusting after a DeLonghi coffee maker — they are so purty.
the staff are really nice and the ones I have spoken to have been knowledgeable and they will also demo products for you (haven’t seen this but a member of staff told me they will do it)
It’s well laid out with plenty of space to meander but it is definatley on the more luxury end of the scale — think Le Creuset, Orla Keilley, Global, Joseph Joseph etc.

I popped in for a wander around this shop while in town yesterday — they definitely seem to have tackled the problems mentioned by Donald and Duncan as everything was priced on the underside of the product. It was nicely laid out and I did a few laps to check everything out. The staff were friendly without being pushy, asking if I needed help finding anything.
A couple of things I did notice — the sale items weren’t very well marked, it wasn’t clear as to whether the discount had already been taken off the items. Overall, I thought the prices seemed expensive and a quick google has shown that they seem to be a good few pounds more expensive than other cook shop options online (even items that are on sale are still more expensive than other places).
It’s a nice shop and well worth a visit although I’m not entirely sure I could afford to buy much here!

I’ve seen this store build up over the last few weeks to the opening day, it is a little odd to find this type of shop in this location looks as if it is lost, rather like having a high end shop in a street full of pound lands.
I get the impression that these guys have opened too soon and should have organised themselves more before opening this outlet, when I came to this store there where empty boxes every where but the back store and than taking the empty’s and placing them at the back they where just dumped on the shop floor.
Many items that l checked did not have a price and there where no labels on the shelves, and had to keep asking staff what the price was of everything, other customers where doing the same.
In months to come this could be a great shop filled with quality kitchen equipment & gadgets at expensive prices, with the back there is good value crockery.
I hope these guys can organise them selves more next time.
