Oh dear. The previous reviews of the Daily Mail pretty much sum the newspaper up. My favourite example of its hypocrisy was an article halfway though the newspaper one day about the adopted African son of actress Emma Thomson. The young man had just graduated from Cambridge University despite a desperate childhood which left him orphaned and fleeing to the UK as an asylum. The article applauded him and Emma for turning his life around.
The headline on the front that day’s paper «Asylum Gravy Train: Asylum seekers cashing in on legal aid ‘goldmine.»
Even though much of the content of The Daily Mail is sleazy and racist, some of the features can actually be pretty entertaining and informative. The journalists are very good writers. Pity they are forced to write such bile.

Oh boy.
A few dozen pages of absolute tripe, served up by foaming-​at-​the-​mouth right wingers. It’s almost like our very own Fox News service in print form.
Basically, it’s for the type of people who would read The Times if they had the capacity. You’ll probably find them at the King’s watching the ballet and thinking ill of those twerps who attend the Royal and actually HAVE money. What louts!
But if gay bashing, closing the borders, xenophobia, and general ill-​informed ranting is your bag… well, are you in luck? This is the paper for you.
To steal Gavin’s closing line, and hopefully state it to the nth degree– you really could not make it up!

You can tell a Daily Mail reader as soon as you meet them. Veins popping out of their neck, rationality replaced by venom spitting rhetoric, and face contorted in permanent state of moral outrage. Like The Times it’s aimed at a conservative audience, but unlike The Times it’s aimed at angry extremists lacking in education or any awareness of the world around them. This results in a somewhat odd editorial stance, that openly despises immigrants, foreigners and the working class, yet at the same time seems strangely jealous of them.
With opinions regularly on show in this paper that aren’t too far from neo-​nazi, it’s quite worrying to think it’s one of the best selling dailies in Britain, but their ill-​informed hatred of anything they don’t agree with, or understand, can make it good to read for a laugh.
A regular highlight is the column by far-​right catchphrase king Richard Littlejohn. Richard hates black people, but he REALLY hates gay people, to the extent that every column, no matter what it’s meant to be about, will descend into a barely coherent Alf Garnett style tirade that ends with him calling for the carpet bombing of Brighton, yet at the same time failing to hide his closeted but obvious desires.
You couldn’t make it up.
