Now, it would be a lie to say I know my way aorund a Christian bookshop, but having been brought up in a reglious family (see my name) I take an interest in the literature from time to time.
I nipped into Pauline’s only yesterday not because I have planned to, but because they had a lovely cross displayed in the window which was colourful and bright — the perfect gift for a first communion and was only £6.50.
The shop itself is pleasent with an array for Christian books and bibles. I was a little disapointed that they didn’t have any study bibles. I’ve never picked up the world’s best selling book and thumbed through it but though a study bible would be a much easier way of doing so, but they don’t stock any. Rather annoying.
If you’re buying for a Confirmation or First Communion then you will find something nice and different in here, and the service is lovely.

I am the most rubbish Christian ever. I went to my First Holy Communion at 5 years old because I wanted to wear a fancy white dress but I didn’t attend my Confirmation at 12 years old because my friends had invited me ice skating that day. Since then I have had very little to do with religion!
However I visited Pauline’s recently as my little cousin is soon going to be having her First Holy Communion and I needed to pick her up a little present. This store specialises in books, CDs and DVDs about Christianity and I ended up buying a little book for children telling them how to use their rosary beads for £5.
Pauline’s isn’t a store I will shop in regularly due to my complete lack of faith in religion but if you are a Christian and especially if you are trying to engage children in Christianity then this shop has plenty or resources to help you do so from books to animated feature films to colouring books.

As Christian book shops go, i have visited a couple. I was brought up in a Christian family, taking an active role in the faith until i was about 16 or 17 and decided to take a step back from it all. My mum and dad are still church-​goers though, so occasionally i am coaxed into picking something up for them from places like this, whether it be a get well card with a little biblical reference or a book for my dad.
I went into Pauline’s in the mindset to get what i wanted and get the heck out, but the staff were realllly nice and frienly and i found myself browsing for perhaps longer than necessary to be polite. I was in for a kids book for a relative who was having a third birthday, and i popped in just to see if they had it. They didn’t,. but they did have a whole (heavenly) host of books to choose from. I found it to be quite pricey, with some of the kiddies books coming up at almost £20, pretty steep by any means. I think religious places like this think that it’s ok to charge that though, because they are a niche market.
I left empty handed and neither here nor there. I would say this wee bookshop is more suited to the Catholic faith, as there were plenty of books relating to that, but if that’s your thing, give Pauline’s a wee visit.
