Number One George Square

This building is very regal standing tall in a quarter of George Square. It has beautiful brick work much like its neighbours, the City Chambers, etc. This could be to the liking of those who wish George Square to be spruced up a bit.
It currently has a few statues and features that as established in themselves but when its not christmas or a big event, then the square can look a bit poor allround.
Also the housing of a Jamie Oliver restaurant is great news on the bottom floor. I have noticed that work is underway in there, so lets hope for early summer. I must also add Jamie Olivers restaurants are the best I have ever been to, so a very good start for this renovated building.

Finally the advertising has come off this mysterious building and us Glaswegians have been allowed to take a look at it. The Ex GPO building stands in the heart of Glasgow and is certainly impressive to look at.
Jamie Oliver has already snapped up the bottom floor and a large bank is rumoured to be basing their headquarters in the top floor. I hope Number One rejuvenates George Square, which I think is currently seriously lacking in good bars/​restaurants, and promotes it to the iconic status it deserves.

The ex General Post Office Building in George Square has been under scaffolding and massive tarpaulins for ten years as redevelopment work costing £70 million was carried out.
But now, the disguise has come off and the A list building is there in all its glory for Glaswegians to admire.
Jamie Oliver has already snapped up the ground floor and basement of the building as a location for his new Italian restaurant.
Finance company Ernst and Young is also considering the top floors as its new Glasgow headquarters.
The iconic building, near the City Chambers, was the headquarters of the General Post Office until, in 1969, it became the Post Office. It closed in 1995.
The building was taken over in 1999 by Stefan King, owner of the G1 Group, but lay empty and behind hoardings until he sold it to HF Developments in 2005 for more than £11m.
The G1 Group said it was not able to identify any suitable redevelopment plans that fitted in with its extensive leisure portfolio. Demolition of the interior began in 2006 and was completed the following year.
With 127,000 sq foot of office space available, it is exciting to imagine the possibilities this building will bring to Glasgow.
