Love this shop! I have been buying bits and bobs for my pets from this shop for years now. The staff are both friendly and have good knowledge about the animals they have and their requirements. The guy who runs the shop(Davy) is approachable and has given me help and advice for my pets.(yes he has even answered all my stupid/silly questions lol) They have all manner of animals in from fish to snakes etc. they can also almost always source you exotic pets that they don’t have in stock. The only downsides are, the place can get busy esp at the weekend when the Barras is in full swing, and the prices of some animals can be a little high(Maybe try a bit of haggling? lol) All in all a top place!

Neon Gecko is an odd place. It only sells freaky pets like lizards and exotic birds. It also sells frozen rats and all sorts of other disgusting things that feed said freaky pets. It is tucked away far down on London Road which gives it an even stranger feel. Only getting two points from me because I really didn’t like to see huge, colourful parrots locked up in tiny little cages.

Surely the best pet shop in Glasgow, or indeed anywhere, Neon Gecko deals in exotic pets you don’t normally find and wouldn’t want to leave alone with your pet hamster. They sell some absolutely stunning lizards, snakes, spiders and birds, as well as all the slightly macabre things you’d need to feed them, and other stuff for their habitat. They also do trpoical fish, including the Finding Nemo style marine variety which are practically impossible to come across in normal pet stores. The staff are all knowledgable reptile types themselves, so If you’re just popping in to try and rubberneck at a python devouring a whole mouse, then you’ll be treated accordingly. If you’re genuinely interested in these creatures though, then it’s an essential visit.

Proprietors of all reptiles exotic and scary and all things for all reptiles exotic and scary, Neon Gecko is situated in disconcertingly small premises in a particularly unexotic stretch of London Road. On my visit, I encountered a parrot the size of a small country(or perhaps more accurately, the size of a big parrot) and a gruff member of staff who seemed like he would not think twice about setting a box load of pythons on me if I asked him a silly question. But then again, this is not an exhibition but rather a genuinely well-respected stockist in a retail area which requires knowledge and sensitivity. With a wide range of marine livestock, snakes, lizards, tortoises and basically everything I, personally, don’t want in my house, I’m sure staff are more than willing to deal with genuine exotic reptile enthusiasts and less willing to deal with«gonna make the parrot talk mister» time wasters, which must be a regular occurrence. The shop itself has a little of that ramshackle, thrown-together feel which runs through many of the businesses in London Road but I guess that’s part of its charm. Indeed it can perhaps be best summed up by the photo on its website of the 475 quid Green Tree Python… …sitting on top of a Daily Record. Well it is the Glasgow take on exotic after all.
