May Elite Event @ Avenue G

That venison was insanely good, I was in reaching distance of the brownies and I had a sneaky trip to Waitrose on the way home for more wine and other goodies
Fab evening as always!

Another cracking wee night oot, I even managed to get my man out as well this time.
No Unilocal name tags this time, fortunately I didn’t feel too much less special. We were a little late but right on time for the munchies. There was plenty of little samples of their sandwich choices available. I thoroughly enjoyed the venison the most. Yum! Then they brought out the special treats! Oh yes chocolate brownies and madeline shaped almond cakes. Nom nom nom!!! I say no more.
As always Chris had a lovely display of Unilocal goodies and was absolutely delighted with a new can cooler holder. Cooool! This was used for the rest of night as promoted by Steven B.
I’ve walked by here many times and had a look in. I thought it was quite clinical looking for a coffee shop but they actually pull it off especially with some comfy seats. I didn’t really explore but will leave to another day as it was very busy with Unilocal peeps scattered all around the small coffee shop. They did have a mezzaine level but I don’t think this was open.
I had a really good evening with good food, good banter and I’ve made some really good Unilocal friends too.

Well what can i say about my first Unilocal event apart from. .. . Splawesome!
The lovely surroundings and delicious food of Avenue G married with Great Banter and of course FREE WINE made for an enjoyable and memorable evening .
Not being a big fan of coffee i shied from the multi-​national cups on offer but i didn’t show the same restraint when the cakes came ‘a’ knocking. The almond and cherry slices were fantastic and reminded me of similar cakes i enjoyed as a child in Norway. I can see myself returning for the odd slice or two in the near future .

I never think to get a sandwich in a coffee shop. Excuse the banality of my opening gambit, but in the west end of Glasgow you’re absolutely spoiled for choice for culinary pleasures, and my distinctive impression of the Avenue G event (I keep calling it Avenue Q in polite conversation for some reason. In fact I’ve now decided that the addition of muppets for the baristas and waiters to use as avatars would absolutely give this the five star rating, I digress.)
My distinctive and lasting impression was just how fine the sandwiches were. They were only little tester plates but every single one was a delight. Not just the sandwiches either, all the food was excellent, the little savoury scones were a particular pleasure I’d not experienced before. And the cakes!
So much to recommend. Coffee was great, staff knew their stuff, they managed to pull off a white interior without feeling clinical or cold. An excellent place, and a pleasant evening with the Unilocal guys, as always.
My only real complaint is the muppets thing, which I’m actually a bit sad about, but since that’s all just in my head I can do nothing but recommend the place whole heartedly.

75p for a glass of milk, and that includes full fat milk.
I cant fully express how delighted I am about this. I was just going on about how nowhere serves a glass of milk, not listed on a menu anyway.
Makes sense! Coffee places have lots of milk.
Smoothies as well, plus lots of eatables. it’s not as I expected ‘just a coffee place’.
A great event. Cracking night. Not particularly looking forward to all the photos this time around. I was followed from home by a raincloud.

Coffee served in shot glasses, delectable little cakes, the chance to sample Avenue G’s sandwich menu (also in miniature!), many Unilocalie freebies and great chat about marathons and the rules and limitations of teleportation — what a great wee evening! With the impending race I had to refrain but the wine was also positively free flowing. I noted also that take away coffee is a mere £1 during May so I may have to make a cheeky wee trip back during lunch break once or twice…

Wandered down to an old haunt. An NHS office just off Byres road was the location of my first IT Security post in Glasgow. So, I was used to the wonders off this city within a city. Something I raised with Declan, once you start to live and work in the west end, you don’t tend to leave.
Avenue G is one of the new additions to this milieu. Even with all of the coffee places waiting to service the academic and west end communities, you are sure that this place will survive. Those are two groups that run on coffee as a form of fuel and are always up for a place to get their bean fix.
I enter the shop and it is heaving with the Unilocal attendees along with a lovely piece of signage on the door that said tonight is a Unilocal Exclusive event.
The savoury treats were bloody brilliant but they were surpassed by the brownies, Madelines shaped almond cakes and cherry bun-​esque gorgeousness.
Chris had arrived after moving himself into a Kelvinbridge basement and had bravely soldiered on. I know the level of tired that you reach on a flat move. Impressive. Unless he got the much larger and fit Jamie to do all of the work.
