This is one of the larger M&S Simply Foods, so it has a great range. As well as your normal lunch type food such as sandwiches, there’s plenty of space for their normal food items — both refrigerated and dry groceries, as well as alcohol. They also have a hot food bar, where you can buy heated paninis and soups, and also breakfast items — I kinda glazed over the hot rolls and such as they don’t apply to me — the only thing I registered was porridge. Oh, and coffee too. It’s not a café, so it’s take-away only. Very handy for the city centre lunch timers, or a quick breakfast to have at the office. I also discovered today that they sell gift vouchers, and I have previously noticed that they often have a seasonal display at the door — Mothers’ Day and such. All in all, a very handy and well-stocked M&S Simply Food.

I’ve found myself in here a few times recently; once because I needed change to pay for parking(what’s with the price of on-street parking in Glasgow anyway, it’s so pricey!). And on Tuesday I needed to grab some party supplies for an Elite Event. It’s a nice sized store with lots of ready meals(it is M&S, after all), lunch items, some booze and confectionary. What I needed was party plates/cutlery etc but they don’t sell that kind of thing. When I asked, the guy directed me to help myself to the cutlery they have to go with lunches but I thought I’d be taking the piss a little if I took 25, so I decided against that and ended up buying it elsewhere. I did manage to get a nice range of soft drinks and bottle water though, which was two things ticked off my list. The staff here seem to be incredibly cheery, or maybe I’ve just had a good run of people working here. Either way, I leave feeling a little bit happier after shopping here which is always a nice experience.

This is one of the nearest supermarkets to my work and I like to nip into it after work if I fancy something nice. This week I have been searching for the rainbow vegetable medley with little success. Better luck next week. I did find some tasty salad pots though! I got a rice, beans and olive pot with chillis and a dressing and an edamame salad, £3 for both. This will be my lunch for tomorrow. I like that M&S has started labelling food as vegan. Not everything vegan is marked as such, not yet! There was a great selection of salads pots. Next time I will get the mango one. I do love that they mark their prices down at 5pm as I’m poor and like a bargain. Best time to go is actually 4pm on a Saturday as the store is closed Sundays and you can come out with a sack full of food and change from a fiver. The only perk to working Saturdays. The only reason I’m not awarding 5 stars is because there are 5 sandwiches/wraps/flatbreads which could so easily be vegan but the houmous has milk in it or the bread has butter. Get it fixed and 5 stars will be yours.

Not far from central station a good place to grab something on the go. Good selection of sandwiches to go with plenty of manned tills and self service counters for quick service. This store you can also buy coffee to how and hot food, fresh bakery section available.

It seems all of the majors have a store in this area. Sainsburys is across the street and a Tesco Express is just down Argyle. There is more available here than at the crowded Glasgow Central location. A coffee and pattisserie bar near the checkouts can be quite handy. As you would guess — a lot of sandwiches and such. Just don’t be surprised if they are in a different location the next day. Marks has tendency to move goods around in there stores. Like an OCD mother in full manic mode. Handy, reasonably stocked, fresh produce and really quick checkouts. Don’t get too scared of the lines — these guys will get you out in roughly three minute after you queue up.

This is a decent little branch of M&S, ideal for popping in for lunch, that is a bit nicer than your average supermarket sandwiches. You’ll find a good range of sandwiches and salads, as well as a small selection of food and wine, for last minute shopping on the way home. There is also a good selection of hot food, which is welcomed by surrounding office workers, looking for some good food on the go.

On the recommendation from the previous Unilocaler, I thought I’d pop in for a breakfast roll. I was intrigued by the prospect, as I wasn’t aware of a «hot food to go» facility at this, or any other M&S. One bacon roll later, five stars for Simply Food.

As most are aware, M&S’s food is good — excellent quality and always of the same high standard and this store is no different. It is pretty tiny and essentially aimed at business folks on their lunch break or picking up bits & pieces on their way home from work. Having said that, you will see a few of the normal M&S clientele in amongst this throng at lunchtime and throughout the day. The reason for this review then? I have recently discovered the ‘hot food to go’ section of this store. You go into the normal queue ordering and paying for your food(ranges from bacon rolls to noodles) then collect it at the next counter. Fab! Now, the bacon roll was pricey for a bacon roll but as you would expect from M&S it is a cut above the rest. The roll isn’t just any roll. Try it when you need a treat one rainy, miserable morning.

A good stop off in the morning on the way to work. They serve fresh coffee and have an in-store bakery along with their normal stock. With all M&S stores their food is hard to say no to. Beware of the queues just before 9 and just after 5. Friendly and helpful staff.
