I like this place for lunch, especially in a large group of family or friends, where you might need somewhere practical with a varied menu. You can get soup and sandwiches or something more substantial such as haggis, neeps and tatties, Cajun salmon and burger etc. Gluten free items are marked out as such in menu. Its also great if u have a buggy and or wheelchair as access is on the flat, it’s spacious and disabled loo/baby change on same level. Another tip is that you get a free baby meal with any adult one(obvs if you have a baby!) — this can be freshly buzzed up by the chef using fresh and seasonal ingredients in line with the menu on the day. Food is of a high standard and staff always friendly and helpful in my experience.

This is something of a shocker, prepare yourself… ready? you sure? OK here goes. Now as a general rule, all eating establishments attached to Museums, or public services are in the main pretty damn average if not absolutely horrific. What you will usually find is an upmarket ish, canteen that is overpriced and manned by staff who look and act as if they are desperately in need of a personality transplant. This place however is a welcomed accept ion to the rule. Set in the lower level of the Museum, this excellent wee café is a fantastic place to grab a coffee, a spot of lunch or an early evening dinner. The menu is relatively extensive and offers good value for money in a stunning location. Not a stale scone or dry cake in sight!

There is something about museums, especially on a weekend(Hmmm crowds and screaming kids maybe?), that really makes me crave a good cup of coffee. Luckily at Kelvingrove Museum, you don’t have to go very far. The KG Café offers a bit of escapism. You can rest your tired legs and sit down to some rather good café-food. I’ve only ever had a snack so I can’t vouch for the meals(although they looked and smelled good) but I can vouch for the scrumy scones that go perfectly with a cappuccino. Mmmm. That’s better.
