Garvie & Co in Milngavie became my 1st stop when I landed in Glasgow, after the long flight and shower and before heading off into the night I needed a proper meal. And I have to say it was love at 1st bite! Since the 1st meal, I went back quite a few times, each time service was great and friendly, Garvie just has a nice cozy feel to it. The 1st time I ordered a pint of beer and the Roast Breast of Chicken wrapped in Parma ham on top of truffle mashed potato with sautéed gem lettuce with peas and pancetta and peppercorn sauce, oh man was this dish perfection, and the truffle mashed potato was divine! Another time at the Garvie again, I ordered a flat white and carrot cake, oh sweet bliss, this was a darker carrot cake then ones I have had before and the frosting was not the cream cheese type nor a buttercream type either, it just was perfectly sweet and complemented the cake perfectly. Ever since my 1st visit I had been craving the truffle mashed potatoes and knew I had to go back one more time before I left, so my last meal at the Garvie was the Garvie & Co Club, it had chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and topped with a fried egg came with a salad and I added a side of the truffle mashed potatoes, this sandwich was perfect, loved the fried egg on it, so good, the truffle mashed potatoes were still just as good at the 1st time. If you in the area, give the Garvie a try, I bet you won’t be disappointed.

A beautifully decorated restaurant, a lively and warm atmosphere and I was very impressed with the staff, the food was creative and diverse and the wine list was excellent. Loved the whiskey bar with a very comprehensive choice of whiskey It was my first visit and I will definitely return.

It was already busy when we walked in at 12.00 for lunch, which was a good sign. Menu, wait people and the food could not be bettered. The facilities, upstairs, are very smart. The cakes and pastries on display in the walk-through to the restaurant are beautiful. They cater for food all through the day, and have no problem putting on the menu«yesterday’s soup» which is always better than when just made. The chef has an eye for presentation and the kitchen delivers– worth a visit.

Garvie & Co certainly looks the biz, internally it is more like a large, trendy Merchant City gaff than a suburban local bar, even a Milngavie one. It gleams, glistens and glitters in the glow of its fashionable incandescent lights, and yet still seems cosy because of the thoughtful layout and large sofas. It looks and feels reassuringly expensive, with enough mirrors that you can see your dinner from about a dozen different angles without even moving your eyes. The wood panelling and faux fires add to that expensive impression. The counter itself is bloomin’ gorgeous, and the staff behind it are smartly attired, enough to be in keeping with the place. This gastropub is owned by the same people who own the Richmond in the West End, and this is even nicer on the olé mince pies. It definitely has a wow factor! We got there kind of late on Sunday night and there were still many people eating, so it certainly seems a very popular place. The menu at first look seemed a little dull, but the devil is in the detail — it has plenty of elegant touches. For once I didn’t go for the scallops, instead I opted for the Chicken Malai, marinated chicken skewers, these had plenty of flavour and the yoghurt chilli dip was excellent, but the chicken was just a teeny bit dry and on the small side. The mains came and I was still prepared to be impressed — and I was — my Blackened Cajun Chicken with artichoke, peppers and olives was a good size, and smothered artistically with a creamy and a tomatoey sauce. It was serious tucker for a hungry lad, but absorbed as I was in it my mate was really distracting me. He was moaning and banging on the table like Meg Ryan in Katz’s Deli. «I don’t know what he’s done with this mashed potato, but it’s the best thing I’ve ever tasted!» he gasped, quaking with pleasure. I’m guessing his Roasted Truffle Chicken pretty much agreed with him then!
