Craig Andrew Hairdressing

Craig and his team are always extremely professional and I always enjoy going having my hair cut, coloured and, especially, blow-​dried there. The salon is very modern and bright, yet cozy, with the usual magazines and tea/​coffee/​juice etc available.
Over the years, Craig has changed my hair from peroxide blonde, to dark brown, to light brown, fitted extensions (which were the best extensions I’ve ever had, and I’m a bit of a connoisseur!) cut a fringe, added highlights, you name it, I’ve had it. I trust him doing whatever I ask to my hair!
Highly recommend!

It was that time of the year again: Haircut Time! Wah! Now, I am a great deal hunter when it comes to hairdressers ~ I like to get a good bargain in a place that I know is reputable. In the past (when I had more spare cash) I didn’t think much of spending £45 on a cut & blow-​dry every 6 – 8 weeks. When I think about that now I cry a bit inside… If I am going to paying that much for a cut & blow-​dry now I want it to be a complete style change so I feel I am getting every pennies worth, not just a ‘trim’ or ‘tidy up’ which is on this visit all I really required.
I was after a fairly short notice appointment so I searched online for deals & came across Craig Andrew Hairdressing. I have never heard of them before but they came highly recommended (by the reviews & hunners of awards they have), plus they are one of the salons listed in the Good Salon Guide. Nice. This was a pretty good deal (£10 off a cut & blow-​dry) also.
I booked an appointment online for the Saturday coming. Fine. But then on the Wednesday evening I got a phone call to say that I was no longer available to have that slot as the hairdresser doing my cut was ‘very busy’ that day… hmmm…now I know I booked this through an outside party but this was still not my fault. The website should’ve told me this slot wasn’t available if that was the case. Hmph. She offered me an earlier slot that Saturday or a Friday afternoon one. I opted for the Friday afternoon. Still a bit annoyed though. Also I didn’t particularly receive any great big apology or real reason. So that scunnered me a bit.
CAH is pretty much above the pub MacSorely’s on Jamaica St. I arrived in good time (10 mins early) for my appointment. When I reached the appointment desk there was no one there to greet me or take my details, just two people sitting on a sofa nearby. So I waited. and waited… and waited a bit more. Eventually a young guy noticed me & came over, again no real apology, he just stated what a ‘really busy day’ he’d had. Okay. He led me to a chair anyway & said he wouldn’t be too long. Now I don’t mind waiting in hairdressers but usually they offer you a drink or a magazine to read while you wait but I was offered nothing at this point. Not impressed. I was beginning to regret coming here… the salon was also very quiet; just the hairdressers who was cutting my hair finishing off his last client & another guy (who I think was actually THE Craig Andrews! Ooh!) with his client. Compared to my usual Rainbow Rooms this seemed almost spookily quiet…
Eventually my guy came over and did a quick consultation. He seemed to know what he was doing as he didn’t make me explain over & over again. This, I thought, is either a very good or bad thing. He took me to the backwash & this is when I get the usual ‘So who colours your hair/​What dye do you use/​When did you last have it cut?’ questions come in. I’m used to it now having turquoise hair. It doesn’t bother me. After my wash (with no Shiatsu massage. Sad face) I was sat back in my chair & the hairdresser left me for a moment then came back then eventually offered me a ‘can of juice’, haha! I had to laugh as this is the first time I’ve ever been offered a can of juice in a hairdressers! I must’ve not looked like the coffee/​tea kinda person to him. I gratefully took a can of Cherry Coke (hadn’t had that in years & was very nice!) & then he came back to start my cut. Now I have to say for all my panic & worry he did a really good job. He didn’t ask loads of questions to begin with but did later on which was good as certain things they can’t/shouldn’t GUESS how you like it to do be done. I was his last appointment of the day and it did seem as though he was rushing slightly but maybe he’s normally just very fast? I was in and out within less than an hour which normally NEVER happens! I actually like to spend ages in the hairdressers but I know some people don’t so if you’re of that kind then I can say they/​this guy doesn’t waste no time once he starts cutting.
I was very pleased with the outcome. I said I didn’t want a lot of my length off and he listened. He also blow-​dried it amazingly and told me about techniques/​products to use but didn’t push any of them on me to buy (RR are quite naughty for this!) So I walked out the door very pleasantly surprised after all the initial hoo-​ha & concerns.
They do an NHS discount here Tues-​Thurs and instead of £33.70 you only pay £22.50 which I think is pretty good. Also they open late (until 8:30pm) every Wednesday & Thursday which is also another great thing for us 9-to-5’ers.
Would I come back? Yes, I think I would. But I will next time book through their own website & visit on a Wed or Thurs so I get my NHS discount & I can go after work! Yay.

Salon demanded extra £50 after washing my hairl! saying my hair was too thick to allow promotional rate (no mention of this on website). I refused to pay.
The manager was offsite and despite numerous attempts to get him to ring me to discuss while I was still in the salon he did not get back to me.
Left my number but no response. Finally wrote to him for an explanation but he has failed to respond. Shocking behaviour from what I thought was reputable salon.
Avoid at all costs

My ongoing mission to go to every hairdressers in Glasgow on my snapfax recently took me to Craig Andrews.
It’s located next to Macsorleys, just down from The Crystal Palace Wetherspoons.
It’s funky inside, it looks like a converted West end high-​ceiling flat and is full of all the usual modern trendy clean interior you would expect including a nice comfy couch.
The staff were polite and chatty and very professional.
It’s a pretty new place, only opened a year ago and quite easy to miss really.
I recommend it though, I was delighted with my haircut.
My only qualm was waiting nearly 30 minutes when I ran about mad trying to get their on time with hassle with transport setting me back. It wasn’t especially busy on the day, so I’m not sure why i had to wait so long.
My lasting memory of the place was seeing one of the most attractive girls that’s ever lived in here.
And yes, she had lovely hair.
