The first thing I should mention is to check the small print! The vouchercloud 20% off your food bill offer is valid every day except Friday. Yes of course we visited on a Friday!!! Had we got 20% off our food bill I would have given an extra star but for the price we paid I was left feeling a little shortchanged. Chiquito is a chain restaurant but a bit more interesting than some of the other Fort based options as the décor is as smudge put it «a bit mental». The staff were alright, nothing to rave or moan about and service was efficient. The food was decent enough but when paying £14.95 for Southern Fried Chicken &BBQ Pulled Pork it needs to be damn good to justify the spend — it just wasn’t anything special. My Chimichanga was a cheaper option at £12.25 but again was decent but nothing exciting. The kids menu had a nice choice of dishes — hooray for anywhere which recognises that not all kids survive only on chicken nuggets and chips. I was left feeling that at over £40 for the 3 of us to have a main course and a soft drink that we’d paid way over the odds for a bog standard chain food meal. Disappointing

Now, going by my usual reviews, it’s safe to say that a chain wouldn’t be my usual go to place to eat at. Whilst at the Fort, your options for food are far more limited! Chose Chiquito as it wasn’t busy and menu suited everyone better. Really friendly welcome and as I was waiting for the others, the waiter even offered me a drink before they arrived as he sat me down. Didn’t have starters, so can’t comment there. I went for southern fried chicken with pulled pork, chips, salad and corn on the cob. Fi had chicken skewers and our friend, Chicken Tacos. My chicken was a little dry on the edges, but more tender where the pulled pork was above it. On initial serving, I was admittedly a little dissapointed on the portion size. It sounded huge on the menu and reality was far different. Fionas skewers were a good portion, as were the Tacos. Downside to the skewers were they eventually got over cooked, as no side plate to remove from the sizzling platter. Couldn’t knock the flavours, it was actually quite nice. For £15 on my dish alone, I certainly felt a little robbed. Total bill of £56 for 3 main courses and 3 soft drinks, wouldn’t make this into anywhere I could call value for money, but they do lunch and evening meal deals during the week, not on weekends. Probably the better of an average bunch, but certainly not worth a drive out especially. You Don’t Gotta Rush Here To Eat!
