This café has been through a fair few iterations and name changes in the past few years. It’s been a Beanscene(yay!), Café Cranachan(boo!) and Rudie’s(yay!). Now it’s Café Go Go, and it might be my favourite incarnation of the place so far. I really like visiting for weekday lunch breaks with friends. They run a lunch deal; two meals for £10. They also offer a 10% student discount and they have free WiFi. Pretty sure there’s some kind of pizza deal too, but I’ve not had chance to try it yet. I especially recommend the soups and stews in bread bowls, the veggie breakfast(which is served all day!) and the beef chilli nachos. The pizzas aren’t bad but they offer a weird one with cranberry sauce that I’d avoid and the baked potatoes are usually a bit on the small side, although generously filled. The coffee is good, teas are loose leaf and they have a nice range of juices and soft drinks — I’m happy anywhere if I can get grapefruit San Pellegrino. There’s usually a few seats outside on sunny days, and it’s a quieter spot to sit and relax than Ashton Lane nearby. It’s very popular with mothers and young babies though, so be prepared to navigate around prams. Apart from that, it’s a very comfortable coffe shop with everything you’d expect and an extensive enough menu that you shouldn’t get bored to quickly.

Café Go Go is in a nice spot on Cresswell Lane, especially if you visit on a sunny afternoon and can nab a seat out in the laneway in the sunshine. I visited here for a brief meeting so didn’t get the full Go Go experience. It reminds me a lot of a Beanscene(I think it used to be one, in fact) and has that generic coffee shop vibe going on — there wasn’t really anything out of the ordinary for me to even comment on. I popped inside, grabbed a juice(Naked juice) which was around £2.50. Service was fine, perfunctory and an ok speed. Would I rush back? Nope — but if I had some time to kill I’ll head here again for a more thorough visit!

It’s the first time I have been in since it opened. It’s a nice sized place with a decent selection of food. The service is pretty standard and the prices are OK. I went for a goats cheese and walnut salad while my friend had the freshly made broccoli soup. The salad was a little dull, but a good sized portion. The soup tasted ok, but could have been thicker. There was 3 pieces of bread that came with the soup which came with one stick of butter. I would go back for a coffee, but not somewhere I would be a first choice in the area.

I like the way that they have managed to lighten and open the place up. I also admit to having a childlike love of the amazingly sunshiny yellow on the walls. Admittedly I wasn’t staggering in for my first coffee of the day — if you are planning this sunglasses might be advisable. The staff were alright, nothing to write home about but equally nothing at all to complain about. The selection is immense and I’ll admit that I panicked and went for a tuna melt panini. The panini was as far as paninis go pretty damn good but then another tables nachos arrived and I wanted to throw my panini on the floor and have a proper temper tantrum. Smudge was delighted to have a huge selection of non-fizzy soft drinks to choose from — it took ages but kept her quiet so I’m not going to moan. Unfortunately, I then caved and bought her a tub of jelly beans so with all the sugar in her snapple and the jelly bean sugar and e-number combo we had a particularly hyper and loud afternoon. I’ll come back. Especially if I’m in need of some faux sunshine. Oh and I’m ordering the nachos next time.

I came here with some classmates after a morning lecture because the coffee-drinkers among us(not me) were looking for a caffeine boost. Instead of coffee though, we ended up with a lot of hot chocolate and waffles. I think we made the right choice. There’s a student discount, which we were all able to take advantage of. The small and large hot chocolates were actually both quite large. I didn’t try any and they looked a bit lighter than I like my chocolate, but the people who ordered the drinks enjoyed them. I went with a small waffle with Nutella. I was a bit worried there might not be enough Nutella and then I’d be left with a dry waffle, but it was plentiful. Enough to cover the whole waffle with just a bit left over for me to drop on my skirt. Early mornings are tough.

USUALLY I really like this place compared to its sister café, the crappy atrium coffee shop. I usually get a Greek salad from café go go because for some reason it’s the meal I trust the most from there… Maybe because it never changes unlike when I have ordered a breakfast pizza and they bring me an actual breakfast… Or when I order chilli bread bowl they give me soup bread bowl… OR when I order an iced mocha latte they bring me an iced mocha frappuccino!!! Today I went to get my trusty greek salad with my mum and sister. We ordered a Greek salad, a bacon and black pudding salad… And the fully loaded nachos. Keep in mind that I am greek and know what a Greek salad is like, I know they don’t have lettuce but I like the fact café go go has lettuce. It says on the café go go menu that the Greek salad consists of cucumber, feta cheese, olives, tomatoes. I have had it many times and that’s usually what I get, with lettuce. But today I got NO cucumber, NO feta cheese and to top it off the lettuce was rocket lettuce, not the usual kind AND millions of onions(that I hate!!!) AND lots of PEPPERS!!! What?!? About two olives in the whole dish and to top it off the salad was black from being covered in balsamic vinegar… What’s that about??? It wasn’t a Greek salad anymore and it definitely wasn’t what was on the menu. Even worse, the bacon and black pudding salad we ordered came over to us as a chorizo and chicken salad and the fully loaded nachos that says on the menu it has«cheese, chicken, sour cream, guacamole, chicken and salsa» had NO chicken OR salsa!!! I’m sick of this place getting orders wrong and messing up! When they do it right it’s amazing, it’s really really good but when they mess up it’s so bad! Especially when your friends got there order perfect and you didn’t, because when you complain to have what you wanted out they tell you it will be a while and so then it’s useless!

In general I really like this place. I like the staff, the menu, the space, the clean toilets and the food — most of the time. In fact, get your hands on the peanut butter filled pretzel bites. But my last couple of visits have been a bit weird. First time I was asked to pay extra for tomato in my salad when it was supposed to be in it anyway. The last time the olives went all shy on me and then I realised all the lettuce was covered in dirt. I definitely like to know my food’s fresh but I think I’d have liked it to have had at least a council wash before it was served to me. So, I asked to swap it for a toastie instead, which was no problem but would have prefered the staff to have given me back the difference rather than making me feel like I was being demanding. Uch, I’ll probably go again for a pretzel fix, gawd damn them!

I’m never normally up near Byres Road and so don’t know many places to eat up near it. We came across Café Go Go and thought were drawn in by it’s reasonable prices and what. in my opinion, was a pretty decent selection of food. However on entering the café it just all seemed a little bit awkward and we felt a little patronized when we asked«what are you sandwich choices to go with the soup?» when seems like a perfectly reasonable question considering we’d never been there. The food itself was pretty standard however they do offer a nice selection of «fancy» teas and soya milk shakes!

I know I’m getting old. I have a number of indicators to support this statement, my favourite being my recently gained tendency to shake my head at things I disapprove of. Another is my new found love of tea, and with it a liking of certain coffee/tea establishments. Up until a year ago I drank very little in places like this, then the tea door in my head opened and I’ve been pouring tea through it since. I do not, however, like coffee. (Well, I like Kahlua, does that count?). Walking into this place this morning, bleary eyed, hoarse throated, in need of something to drink but enjoying the blast of warm, comforting air inside; what was I to order, a tea, or a white Russian? They had no white russians. I know this, not because I asked for one, that would be mental, but I asked if they could do a milkshake. Yeah, I was that guy. Alas, no milkshakes! Before I got a chance to peruse their tea selection, I was offered something intriguing. In a foreign tongue, the barista(that’s what they’re called isn’t it?) offered to concoct for me something along the lines of a vanilla mocha frappé something. Jings! It was absolutely lovely! My fear of coffee may be waning. As well as how tasty the drink was, I greatly appreciated the barista’s efforts to put together something for me that she knew I’d like. The service was great throughout and my face had a smile on it throughout also. She also gave a taste of the drink to my curious friend, which was nice. Said friend also had a fantastic looking scone, and some coffee thing which despite this experience remains alien to me, but I believe was enjoyed. On display were a glorious selection of cakes and a tonne of sandwhiches and other munchables. Yum. The interior of the place itself hasn’t changed greatly over the years; it still feels like the Beanscene I hid from lectures in. This morning It was warm, the music was nice, the atmosphere was calm and quiet, and everything and everyone just seemed cosy. Add to this the genuinely friendly staff, and we’re onto a winner. Four stars, with half a star in reservation because I haven’t tested out their teas yet, and the other half is being held until they serve milkshakes *shakes head*.
