For the first few weeks of Doghouse opening it was super-busy so we didn’t get the chance to pop in here. But in the last few weeks I’ve made it here twice and I’m super-impressed. On both occasions we were lucky enough to get a both — in fact, I’m sure it was the same booth on both nights. A selection of board games if that takes your fancy — or bring your own. And, of course, their awesome bottle shop, where you can choose from their vast selection of beers to drink in the bar or take away with you. Their beer menu is prominently displayed behind the bar on a cinema listings board — yeah, I love this feature too — on one side, a list of Brewdog beers, on the other their current selection of craft beers from partner breweries. The décor is a departure from all the other bars, possibly because they’ve bought all the gym hall flooring in the country to furnish the others. Huge windows looking out onto the street in two directions makes it very bright and airy, and a great opportunity to watch the world go by. Exposed brickwork and piping, filament lightbulbs suspended from the ceiling and, if I’m not mistaken that’s a big blue cargo shipping container next to the bar… I love that the kitchen is open and visible to the bar — something about watching food being made so expertly has always appealed to me. Next time I’ll defo have to try something from the menu — it’s mostly meats, but the dessert menu looks spectacular too and changes regularly, so there’s always something new to try. This is such a welcome addition to our neighbourhood and I, for one, am a fan!

Oh. My. Heavens. Picture the scene, a jumping Friday night, nine work colleagues who’ve already managed to cram in a couple of cocktails, and the anticipation of some Tomahawk steaks. The tension was high, it had been a long day, we were hungry, we were thirsty but, and this is a very important but, we had a table booked! After some deliberation — the choice of beers is impressive — drinks were ordered, and we confirmed when our steaks would be ready. When you pre-order Tomahawk steaks(and you have to pre-order) they give you an estimated time for when it will be ready so we had a sense of when our food might be ready but, alas, for a few of us at my end of the table, it wasn’t going to be soon enough so, OHNO!, we decided to order the Trinity Sampler between as a starter. Oh. My. Heavens. ½ rack ribs, ¼lbs of pulled pork, ¼lbs of beef brisket — which you go and collect and they plop on a metal tray(it’s a bit like getting your school lunch!) — were collected and very very quickly devoured. Well, that was after the first few mouthfuls which included a lot of ‘Oh. My. Heavens’ and eye rolls at the sheer deliciousness of each item. I’m not a big fan of ribs but as they smoked the meat, rather than dose it in messy sauces, these were perfect. The meat fell off the bone and was wonderfully moist. The pulled pork was probably my favourite, a nice spicy tang and some cripsy bits in there too. The beef brisket was very tender but a little dry but, and I can’t stress this enough, I am being very picky! And then it was time for the Tomahawks! Well, I say it was time, it was about 15 – 20 mins later than originally stated but one of the chefs had already told us they’d take a little longer as they were ‘a little bigger than the usual ones we get’! It’s fair to say that when they brought them out and placed them in front of us I did wonder, very briefly, if we’d bitten off more than we could chew! The sides also arrived, I kept it simple and went with the potato salad which was ok but nothing special, but I did manage to try the macaroni cheese which was wonderfully cheese and nicely stodgy, and the beans which were a mix of beans in a tomato sauce which were ok. The star was definitely the grilled beetroot and goats cheese, I could probably eat a couple of portions of tihs on their own! But to the star of the show. Oh. My. Heavens. I should point out now that I’m usually a fillet man. I know, I know, ‘all the flavour is in the fat’ but I have a bit of a thing about eating fat(bleuch) so tend to stick to fillet to be safe. After Friday night, I might have to revisit that! The Tomahawk was medium rare and as much as it’s a cliché, it simply melted in the mouth. It was moist, smokey, the crust had a nice salty kick, tender and absolutely delicious. Massively impressive given the sheer size of the cut of meat(it’s presented with the bone for added ‘woooooo’ factor). And yes, three of us managed to finish it so — if you skipped starters — I reckon two could take one down but both people would need hefty appetites! Naturally I had space for dessert, peanut butter ice cream and cookies which I didn’t eat all of but was pretty damn good. However, next time I think I’ll skip any thought of a dessert as it didn’t really add to the meal. A couple of other things to note, the staff were excellent, accomodating, helpful and made the night a lot of fun, and the price. Admittedly we paid a deposit(£50 for the group), and got a 10% discount as one of our party is a Brewdog shareholder but somehow the several beers, starter, massive steaks, filling sides and sweet desserts still only cost us £25 a head! I’m pretty sure they screwed up, they must’ve(if so, we are sorry, get in touch and we will sort it out!). In short(and I know what you are thinking, WHYDIDN’T HESTARTWITHTHESHORTVERSION!!), delicious smoked meat, excellent beer, fantastic service, if you haven’t been yet, GETTHERE! Or, perhaps I can just sum it up this way. Oh. My. Heavens.

I think this new BrewDog is a great addition to Merchant City and was really chuffed to visit when it first opened. Being a launch night, we were treated to lots of samples and the place had a real buzz about it, but I wanted to pay it a proper visit as a customer before reviewing it. I went in for lunch this week with a veggie friend and was interested to see what they could offer as their menu is super meat heavy. It’s all BBQ/smoked meats which personally I don’t really like(I know, sacrilege coming from an Australian) so when my friend ordered a double portion of mac cheese for lunch, I followed suit and got the same. I also ordered a blue cheese salad because why not. At lunch time, it was pretty quiet and we were able to grab a booth seat which are definitely the best seats in the house. Service seemed a little confused though, and I really couldn’t tell whether it was full table service or if we were meant to go to the bar. We had our drinks order taken but then needed to go to the serving counter to get food, and I wasn’t sure whether we needed to pay at the counter or could just pay for all our food and drinks together. I’m also not a huge fan of the canteen experience of ordering your food and then standing there and waiting for it, and would rather that they just did table service for food like a normal bar/restaurant but maybe it’s just me. So, how was the mac cheese? The server topped mine with crispy onions(drool) and it was absolutely lush. The right amount of cheesiness and a very generous portion which I actually struggled to finish, if you can believe that. The blue cheese salad was actually a wedge of iceberg lettuce and they’d magically managed to get blue cheese through each layer of the lettuce — perfect! All up, I really liked the non-meat food here and would definitely recommend it — it’s good to see that a veggie could find something to eat here even though at first glance the menu seems to meat-heavy. I wasn’t having any beers(it was a Tuesday lunch time) but I will definitely be back for a session soon and will update accordingly! Note: there’s also the bottle shop so you can buy beers to take away, or to drink on site! Such a great idea. I didn’t get a chance to look at the selection this time though.

Aaaah BrewDog. I loved your west end bar and hoped so much the merchant city Doghouse would imitate it. It didn’t. And i couldn’t be happier. It’s taken us months, but this week the Mr and I finally dragged ourselves round the corner to visit our new local. We didn’t try any food(was far too late), but I’ve not heard anyone say a bad thing about munching here. For me though, the atmosphere was quite different from the west end branch — there you can’t move without bumping into a stereotypical hipster — here, the atmosphere is much more laid back, and well(don’t hate me!), pretentious. I totally loved it. We’ll def be visiting again soon!

Well the Glasgow expansion has arrived bigger and louder and I’m a fan! Firstly the décor is what seems to be on trend at the moment! Hipster style exposed walls piping hanging out the celling and retro menu boards. Staff are extremely friendly always ready to give you advice on what to order. It’s craft beer central. From guest beers to their very own you will always be spoiled for choice. It still has a brewdog vibe but with a twist. It serves food till late — The BBQ pit, take your tray and see what’s on the chefs daily menu board. Now for something a little different that you do not see in many bars — if any in Glasgow is the bottle shop! Shelves and shelves of craft bottles but not just to take away but also to drink in the bar. That’s right go in pick some bottle pay for it and head back to the bar to drink your carry out! I love this idea! It allows the bar to carry lots of different beers! I think I’m a fan!

I have been a fan of Brewdog for a while and was beyond excited when I found out they were opening the Dog House on Hutcheson Street. The staff are super friendly and very knowledgeable about all of the beers. As well as all the draught and bottled beers at the bar there is also Bottle Dog a shop where you can buy beers to take away or pay corkage and drink them in the bar. The food is served canteen style and again the staff are happy to talk you through all the options. I love the mac cheese, smoked brisket and pulled pork. There are board games, ideal to pass time on a lazy Sunday. I don’t have a bad word to say about this place.

Went here for a beer after work and the place was great! The staff was friendly, and there was plenty of bears to choose. Also, the place is quite big, which is cool so there aren’t people bumping into you all the time. I’ll definitively go back :-)

Been in a couple of times now. Once on a wet Sunday afternoon, when it had a pretty chilled feel and once at Christmas on a Friday night, when it was absolutely rammed! I really like this new style, the on-tap range displayed on the old cinema boards is great. The staff all seem really good and willing to help you with your selection. The food is pretty good, although I was slightly disappointed. I love barbecue, especially the different types of meats as well as all the sides. I’m not so keen on how they serve the meat, it’s far too clinical. It looks like it’s made elsewhere and brought in as none of the staff seem to actually cook anything. I also think it could do with a slightly better range. Prices are also a bit toppy for what you actually get. One thing I lived were the sauces, they taste amazing and I loved the bottles with the old typed labels.

Kris, my dad, his best friend Graeme and I all ended up here since Graeme was staying next door at Rab Ha’s so we popped in for a nightcap(or 5…) on a busy Saturday night. I was very impressed with the décor and interior. As much as Brewdog establishments tend to have a consistent look, this offering has a lot more soace than most and they have been clever with it in order to serve plenty of punters without cramming folk in like cattle. As always with Brewdog, lots of really tasty beers and ales on offer, the staff(some of whom I recognize from the Kelvingrove bar) are helpful and polite even when the place is jumping. I would consider giving Doghouse 5 stars once I’ve had a chance to try the food, which does look tasty!

I’m a fan of Brewdog, so was keen to check out this new bar. It has the standard Brewdog feel and vibe to it — lots of chunky wooden benches to perch at, exposed pipes and air vents, and large glass windows, so you can pick up on what’s going on outside as well as inside, which I love. They also have a bottle-shop here, where you can either buy beers to drink on the premises, or to take away. Genius idea, well played Brewdog. The night we were there was pay-day Friday and it was jam-packed. We still managed to find a couple of seats, and were served amazingly quickly given how busy it was. Staff were super nice. As well as the Brewdog beers on offer, they have styled this place as some sort of meat-house type place. I don’t even know what you call it. There isn’t a separate eating area, so you can be drinking right next to folk who are chowing down on ribs, or chicken or whatever. OK so I’m vegan, but it doesn’t normally bother me if people are eating meat — it’s up to them. I can happily go out with my other half and if he has a steak, that’s fine. However, just with the style of meat on offer here, and that it’s the sort of food you might eat with your hands, I felt like I was surrounded by people ripping up animal carcasses whichever way I turned. I found it pretty revolting. So maybe this particular Brewdog isn’t for me. If I was to go back, I’d aim for a quieter time, and probably not Friday pay-day dinner time.

I’m a BrewDog shareholder of around 4 years so I’ve been to A LOT of BrewDog bars. They all look the same. This place is slightly different in that it’s got a cage of bottles beers(identical to Drygate) for off sales and a walk-up food counter for the purchasing of reasonably tasty but expensive smoked meats. It’s also got a bar with craft beer, obviously. The good things are: –dog friendly –friendly staff –large selection of craft beer –habanero hot sauce is great –the Mac and cheese is really good, and at £3 pretty good value –pulled pork and brisket are nice, albeit with a «fake» smoky flavour The not so good things are: –the ribs I had were wrapped in cellophane and were dry and flavourless –trinity sampler at £15 would only feed someone with a small appetite without getting sides, which aren’t included at this excessive price –there’s not actually much table space inside so I can’t see them making much money from the food. Although it’s a big plot there’s a lot of vertical drinking space rather than tables, so if you want food I would recommend booking ahead –I personally don’t see the point of the bottle shop but that’s just me

Aw yessss! Friendly, helpful folk, and smoked meats. What more could you want for lunch. Well beer, but they had plenty of that too! And not just Brewdog beers thankfully, cos even as a shareholder I can only take so much of that strong Brewdog flavour before needing a refresher. I went for the £8 deal. Not exactly a standard meal format this includes two types of meat, in my case Beef Brisket and Pulled Pork, and a side, for me the Pit Beans, and nothing else. The pulled pork had a magnificent smoked taste. The beef brisket was tender as you could ask for and with the spicy, saucy beans as a flavoursome accompaniment I didn’t even need any of the provided sauces. Very tasty and pretty cheap, well until I went to Bottledog and filled a bag with beers.

Brand new any well worth the wait, It has been 2 years of waiting for the licensing to go through and and building to take place. Now they guys have opened their 2nd glasgow bar. 21 taps of beery goodness, hundreds of bottle options to drink in house or take out. Then there is the food. BBQ style meat bar, chicken, beef or pork and a whole host of sides. This is an amazing place to sit in the merchant city and enjoy a beer and some meat. The building itself has been empty since it was built and the bd team have done an excellent job of keeping their rough industrial look installing a container beer cellar, rustic bar and seating area and of course the standard bd neon signs. Staff are amazing, polite helpful and knowledgeable. The Bottledog area has plenty of beer, some homebrew supplies and other brewdog swag to enjoy.

I’ve been excitedly waiting on Brewdog’s newest flagship bar to open in Merchant City for what seems like years… attending the opening night launch, I can attest that it was worth the long wait! It’s clear the growth of the company is reflected in their increasingly ambitious establishments. DogHouse is a bar, barbecue restaurant, bottle shop under one roof, and brings this corner of Merchant city to life after so many years of neglect. The glass walls give the exterior a striking and inviting presence, while allowing lots of natural light and people-watching opportunity to the interior. Your typical hipster styling of stripped-back walls, exposed utilities and filament lightbulbs are in attendance, with the interior also featuring funky neon, illuminated cinema board style bar list, metal horn lampshades, and part of a shipping container for good measure. The food is BBQ — think ribs, pulled pork, roast chicken, sausages, brisket, sides of coleslaw, potato salad, mac n cheese, and so on. The kitchen features two high-tech automated smokers and the meat is prepped on premises. The meats on offer were super tender and mouthwateringly tasty, and the sides(I had potato salad and BBQ pit beans) were perfect. Pricing looked pretty reasonable too, with epic daytime deals available. Doghouse has a lot in common with craft-beer behemoth Drygate just a short 10 minute walk away, so for a full-on craft beer experience(with fab food too), hit up both! Glasgow’s craft beer scene is looking pretty awesome these days!

Thanks to Pammi G we were on the guest list for launch night and Rocco G and I arrived around 7pm when the place was already quite busy, the beer was flowing and the atmosphere had a great buzz about it. We were welcomed on arrival by the friendly staff who explained the setup and gave us our beer/food token. Basically it entitled us to a half pint of punk and some BBQ food. We of course went straight for the Punk IPA. It’s a great beer and I think(you would need to ask Brewdog themselves to be sure) this is probably their most popular beer. Food wise the Doghouse very much has a restaurant aspect to it with a BBQ area featuring prominently. Now I have to say this looked a bit like a vegans nightmare. It was basically a tray of different BBQ meats, everything was on offer from beef brisket to chicken thighs to sausages. There was in fact around 6 different meats to taste and for me it was was all nice enough, although actually my favourite food item of the night was the Mac and Cheese side that I got alongside the huge meat feast that was on offer. There was actually lots of sides available and I also had some delicious cold potato salad to. On the food front I would say that for restaurant quality(they are promoted as a restaurant and not just a pub) there might be some quality levels still for them to get to, but as pub food to go along with the great beer on offer the food really hits the mark. Food chat over its time to tell you about their beer. If my memory serves me right there is over 20 taps and probably around 250 bottles on offer in the bar. On tap it’s majority Brewdog of course but there was other brands as well such as the famous American Stone Brewery. It’s on the bottle front that things go a bit crazy with the huge variety of beers from around the world on offer and from so many different breweries. If your a craft beer fan the selection is mind blowing and the coolest thing of all is that you can drink the bottles on offer in the bottle shop in the actual pub. Sitting in with your carry out comes at a higher price of course, but it really was brilliant to be able to wander around picking up loads bottles of before choosing your next tipple of the night. Doghouse is a three pronged venue and I have touched on them all, pub, restaurant and bottle shop, but it is the latter with the option to sit in as well as takeaway that really was the coolest feature for me. I’m not going to describe the venue itself to much. It’s much larger than its Glasgow counterpart with lots of seats and there is industrial grade metal finishes and exposed brickwork everywhere. Basically it fits the Brewdog bar style and love that or hate it they are not going to change it so best just focus on the beer instead. Well that’s nearly it. I just wanted to point out one last important part of the BD experience and that is the interaction with the Beer Punks(staff) themselves. On two occasions I asked for beer recommendations and I was very pleased with the selections put forward. Giving a few hints on my taste preferences and I was pointed in the direction of an amazing Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin and a tasty Firestone UJIPA. The knowledge the team has makes all the difference, they did not pick Brewdog beers and they selected beers that I would certainly go for again. The Ballast Point Sculpin was one of the best beers I have had in a long long time. From what I can tell Brewdogs plan is to take their bars to just about every corner of the UK. For me as long as they take a variety of craft brewery beers options with them it can only be a good thing as its letting people across the country have the chance to drink great beer. Doghouse itself is a great location and due to the variety of beer options available it has the potential to be the best place to drink craft beer in Glasgow.

I was a bit curious and went to Wikipedia to figure out just how mega Brewdog had become, well amazingly(if I can actually count) I discovered that this is their 37th bar on planet Earth! Next stop, the Moon? It’s crazy to think they opened only their first bar in 2010, but its also great to see how popular craft beer has become. Doghouse in Glasgow’s Merchant City is something a little special for the Brewdog chain. Not only does it operate as a regular Brewdog bar, but it also contains an outstanding bottle shop and a canteen style smoke house /bbq joint. I, along with my partner in crime Austen M, were fortunate enough to blag tickets for the launch night on Friday 30th October courtesy of the Glasgow Food Geek who couldn’t attend herself. I reckon it was just a lame excuse as that lassie CANNOT drink beer to save her life. Despite actively force feeding ‘The Geek’ countless beers samples, I think its safe to say she will always opt for a glass of Victoria Beckham ‘special’ wine rather than a craft beer, anyway I digress. Back to the pub… As you would expect from Brewdog, its well stocked, but this new place, even more so. The bar features no less than 25 draught beers on tap! The majority of draughts are from the Brewdog brewery, however, there was a healthy selection of non-Brewdog taps too, from around the globe no less, which was great to see. In addition to this, is the MEGA bottle shop, which really sets Doghouse apart. The knowledgeable staff informed me there were some 250 bottles to choose from and the genius behind this is that they are all available to sit in or take away. I’ve experienced similar such bar /bottle shop combos in places like Copenhagen(i.e the amazing Mikkeler bars) but never here in the UK, so this is something a bit special for us. If I were to talk about the 275 different beers on offer it would literally wear out my keyboard, so I think its fair to say, that if you don’t find a beer that you like in here, you should just probably just give up looking. The opening night was rather relaxed and fortunately it wasn’t overly busy so we were able to find a seat next to some friends we spotted. At the door we were greeted and given a little token which entitled us to a half pint of punk and a taster platter of various smoked meats and a couple of sides. Most of you will probably already be familiar with the style of beers Brewdog produce, predominantly of the über hoppy /IPA variety, and that is exactly what we got in our Punk IPA. Bursting with tropical fruit notes with a crisp, bitter finish it worked really well with our meat-fest platter. Unfortunately for you veggies and vegans, this will not be a dining location for you, as the menu is pretty much exclusively for carnivores. The meats used are sourced by the award-winning butcher Aubrey Allen and they come in all different styles. North Carolina-style Lexington pulled pork, Texas brisket, ‘hot gut’ smoked sausage, smoked Beef Rib, smoked chicken to name a few. These are sold by the pound, however they also do a platter which they offer for lunch(£8) and dinner(£14.95) if you fancy trying a few different items. On the night we were treated to pretty much all the meats and I concur, they were good. Its not the most adventurous or inspiring of menu’s and perhaps its a little fad-y, going all out with the American theme, but hey, its what the kids want! We got to chose from two different sides, from items like Mac & Cheese, Potato Salad, Blue Cheese Salad, Pit Beans and Market greens. I went for the greens and tattie salad and they were again very nice without being mind blowing. Like all Brewdog pubs, it has that familiar industrial type look, but its laid back, with friendly staff and chilled out punters. For me this is a place to enjoy beer, with like minded beerphiles. It truly is our beer Mecca in Glasgow so its now time for me to work through those 275 beers… In summary, for the bar and bottle shop its an easy, no brainer 5MASSIVE stars. Because they are marketing themselves as a restaurant I feel this is a very important for Doghouse, however the food for me was not that exciting with not enough choice or variety So it’s just a 3 for the grub, giving these guys an easy 4 stars.

I’m already a fan of BrewDog and I’d been looking forward to DogHouse opening for a while. Naturally I was excited when Briony C suggested that we go to check it out. We were slightly concerned that we might not get a table. Fortunately this bar is on the large side but I would certainly expect it to be standing room only on busy Friday and Saturday nights. Definitely aim to get there early if you want a seat, which you should, because you’re going to want to try the food. The food is focussed on barbecue, think pulled pork, brisket and baby back ribs. It’s served canteen style; grab your tray and order your mains(there’s options for a selection or for each of the meats by weight) and then move on to get your hot or cold sides, including things like potato salad, burnt ends(those lovely bits at the end of a roast with spicy gravy stuff) and macaroni and cheese. Then, pay at the end and go get your seat. The bar is very well stocked, obviously the main event is BrewDog’s beers plus a few rotating ales by other breweries. At the very far end is the«bottle dog,» a sectioned off area where you can buy yet more beers by the bottle either to drink in the bar, or to take away with you. DogHouse is a great addition to the Merchant City bar scene. I can see it being a regular haunt for me and I’m already trying to come up with excuses to bring people along for some more of that barbeque and some delicious beers.

I’m very aware that BrewDog is a company that can be best described as polarising. Even in my own social group, the announcement of this location was met with a mixture of excitement and annoyance. I’ll fully admit that I’m excited about the whole thing. My excitement is why I was glad to get to attend a pre-opening night for Equity Punks(stockholders). DogHouse Merchant city is the second BrewDog location in Glasgow but it’s not the same type of pub. So, what makes this location special? Besides being simply larger than the other location in Glasgow, there’s more of an emphasis on food. It also has a bottle shop attached. The promise is 25 draft beers and lots of bbq. There’s plants of seating, both inside and outside. There are both booths and a series of long tables. Lighting is low but not too dim. Tonight is a special night and so there’s an air of excitement as we all wait to get in for the shareholder opening. People are queued up by 5:45 for the 6 opening. I’m just glad it’s not raining. Once I got in, I was given a token to try food and drink(a perk of the evening) and sat down before getting a drink. The space is even nicer once you’re in it the building. The bar is long and they have signs with all of the beers right above that. The real secret is those aren’t the only beers. Besides the standard beers in bottles, to the right of the bar is the bottle shop. It’s a small space but very impressive. You can pay a corkage fee to get any of the bottles there to drink in house.(£1.50 for up to 500ml and £3 for all above). And that’s when I’ll get onto the food. I admit I got to sample a bit of all of the meats, a hot side, and a cold side. It’s served in a canteen cafeteria style, including with metal trays. My first impression was that this is proper bbq. They have pulled pork, beef brisket, sausage, and chicken. The end of the brisket is beautifully charred. They use Carolina style vinegar sauce. The macaroni and cheese is nicely creamy and the pickles were well seasoned and a little tart. Tonight they had Victory At Sea on nitro, but I’m mostly excited to see they have a nitro tap. I know it’s a special night, but the staff is marvellously enthusiastic and friendly. It bodes well for the future. I started this with the intention of saying it’ll likely not become my home location because it’s further from my home than the other location, but this one is so nice than I’m contemplating changing my mind. It would be a fantastic regular pub.
