Big Licks is the Finnieston’s desert place. Your options are pretty much ice cream or doughnuts, with occasional other baked treats and things like milk shakes available. For me, the best bet is the ice cream. They have a pretty big selection, with two large cold units full of a wide range of flavours. I recently stopped in for two scoops — one of coconut and one of salted caramel. These are generous servings, so much so that I actually might consider only getting one scoop next time. Both flavours were delicious and I can also vouch for their raspberry ripple being delicious. I’ve only ever tried the berry glamour doughnut which is beautiful and tasty but maybe just a touch overly sweet for me(yes, I know, if I don’t want sweet stuff I’m in the wrong place, whatever). It wouldn’t put me off trying the others, though.

Good selection of ice-creams and hot toppings though the interior and lighting wasn’t very inviting.

Who doesn’t love dessert If you are that person, stop reading. No really I mean it … I don’t like you, go away! I went in with a friend having passed by so many times and never realising what this place was from its weirdly dark exterior I looked at the dessert and overheard the couple in front of me slagging off the salted caramel ice cream«eurgh who would eat caramel with salt in it, that’s disgusting!!!» Can’t have them dissing ice cream … So I ordered quite loudly on my turn 5 scoops please … These four and THESALTEDCARAMEL They are the disgusting ones… Poor salted caramel Each scoop was as lovely as the last and I have been back many times now, we can’t quite get dessert places as good as North America however this place is the best I know in Scotland

If you want an extra special ice cream cone in Glasgow then Big Licks is the place to go! I have friends who rave about the place(the warm cookie dough with ice cream and lashings of Nutella is a particularly popular choice!), so, when a burst of sunshine hit the city, I knew I wanted to head here for a giant ice cream cone. I opted for the Nutella ice cream while my boyfriend choose the cookie dough flavour. Both were thick and rich in flavour and consistency and tasted like what they were supposed to — no sickly sweetness or artificial flavourings here. I love Kinder chocolate so was delighted to find the Nutella ice cream tastes so similar — I did say at the time it was like a Kinder Surprise had been turned into an ice cream cone! With real chunks of cookie dough mixed in, I couldn’t resist, ahem, sharing my boyfriend’s cone too…

For crying out loud, I swear this place is what my dreams are made of! After the sneaker convention and lunch, I convinced the boys they needed to try Big Lick’s doughnuts. We walked in and their jaws dropped to the floor. They each ordered 2 doughnuts each and devoured them in minutes before even leaving the shop. I can say that I’ve made a fan out of these guys. Previous to this quick stop by, my boyfriend and a few friends and I stopped in on the way to the west end. We each ordered ice cream and a doughnut and left feeling ten tonnes and happy as pigs. My boyfriend and I shared a scoop of Banofee Ice Cream and a scoop of Daim ice cream and a strawberry doughnut. To be completely honest, I don’t think either of us has ever had better ice cream they we had that afternoon. It was really difficult not to devour the ice cream in a one and share it with someone! It truly was something out of this world. The prices are ok for what you get. Doughnuts are still a new thing here in Glasgow, so they’re a bit on the pricey side compared to what I can get fat on in the states, but for what it’s worth… they’re worth it! The ice cream is £3 for two scoops in a cup or on a cone, which is ok, I suppose. Either way, I dream about their ice cream and doughnuts on a daily basis and am really happy that they’re open and not really convenient for me to get to in a matter of minutes, otherwise i’d be in big trouble.

Big Licks is the place to go for a mega ice cream cone or tub in this part of town. Byres Road has Crollas and Nardinis but Big Licks is where it’s at in Finnieston. They have lots of great flavours and the ice cream is good quality. It’s also really reasonably priced, the scoops are huge! Now that they’ve sorted out their opening hours they don’t seem to have the huge queues out the door but it still gets quite busy. It’s a shame they don’t have more seating inside but you can always take your ice cream to go. Local tip: there’s a small park across the road from the 78 where you can sit and eat your ice cream in the sun or shade.

For an after food dessert, Big Licks was open! Finally I walked past and it was open and I was willing to go inside, because quite frankly the insane queues of people as well as the horribly weird opening hours never inspired me before. We walked in and we were, insert gasp of surprise, the only ones there — It was between 5 and 7pm, unfortunately I didn’t check my phone so I cannot be more specific than that. However, all the doughnuts were laid out with a lot of precision and the ice cream looked ready to be eaten. I’m not super keen on their lighting, it feels like it’s all blue light and it’s all quite dark. The staff is quite friendly. It look us forever to make up our minds, but I ended up getting a plain glazed doughnut(to go and they wrapped it in a foil to ensure no leakages or anything of the glaze) for £1.35, and one scoop of Kinder icecream at £2. The ice cream was reminiscent of kinder, and I definitely appreciated the Nutella swirl around the top. It’s heavy, creamy and dense ice cream but with a little less Nutella it would have been even better. My friends really enjoyed their Banoffee and Daim ice cream. Now on to the doughnut. It’s alright. I enjoyed eating it, and I appreciate that it’s quite a bit cheaper than the ones you get at Nic’s Deli, but there was something about it that was slightly bitter. The dough itself was also really dense, and Carolyn E. suggests that the bitterness may come from improperly incorporated Cream of Tartar. I think I would like to come back before I completely make up my mind of what kind of rating I want to give. It may even go up in stars, because the ice cream was quite tasty and people seem to love this place.

Ice cream was the ticket on an unusually hot evening in Glasgow last week. With a visiting relative in tow we decided to hit up a local ice cream parlour and sample some fancy flavours. I picked a waffle cone with a scoop each of salted caramel and banoffee and it was bloody brilliant. The salted caramel was nice a sweet with a hint of salt but not too salty as to be overpowering. Banoffee sweet and creamy as you would expect. The cone held up like a champ right to the last bite and I even managed to finish it without toppling a scoop onto the pavement. RESULT! The other two had double scoop cups of coconut and vanilla raspberry swirl, and oreo and chocolate. Everyone was very impressed with their flavour combos. Will definitely return for more if the sun visits again!

Quick summary: Big Licks has some of the best ice cream I’ve found in Glasgow. Longer: Having passed by the queues many times last summer, I finally decided to try the ice cream and glad I had. The rotating selection of ice cream flavours is varied and all of the flavours I’ve had have been fantastic. The cookies in the cookies & cream still have texture and the chocolate is nicely chocolate-y. The prices are fair(currently £2 for one scoop, £3 for two scoops, and £3.80 for three scoops). I’ve not tried the other desserts yet but I can smell the warm cookie dough whenever I go in.

I’ve been to Big Licks twice now, and I’m still jonesing for more. Much, much more. Both times, the same lovely and incredibly patient woman behind the counter(who rocks an AWESOME purple lipstick color) has helped my indecisive boyfriend and I pick out our ice cream. We received generous samples, detailed explanations, and quick, friendly service. The ice cream itself is absolutely delicious. Curly wurly and honeycomb were our favorites, but strawberry was also very good. The texture is very rich and creamy and rather unlike other ice cream I’ve had in the past — in a good way. I’m itching to try the Snickers and Irn Bru flavors next, although I suspect they are on rotation, so fingers crossed they’ll be there next time. The prices are very reasonable at £2 a scoop and there’s a small seating area if you fancy a sit. Overall I’ve just been extremely impressed with the service, selection, and of course, the ice cream itself. I live in Merchant City but will definitely be looking for more excuses to visit the West End/Big Licks again!

I love that there are clear allergy guidelines on the case but also the woman working went and double checked the sorbets to make sure they were egg-free. She was super patient with my 3 year old after he tasted two flavours and tried to make up his mind! Watermelon and Strawberry were both yummy! The BEST part though is the sister store which shares the same store front: Nom Nom Donuts. HOLYFREAKINGAYE. I’m crazy picky about doughnuts and these are really good. Not overly sickly but sweet and light with a variety of flavours. Forget you-know-what with the long lines in Edinburgh there are great doughnuts in Glasgow already!

Have been to Big Licks a couple of times and have always been welcomed with a smile from the nice staff. They have about 15 – 20 different ice cream flavours to choose from. If you have a hard time deciding what you want, they ask you if want to taste something. You can get different types of desserts: hot cookie dough with ice cream, belgian waffles, milkshakes and just regular cones and tubs. Very reasonable prices as you get pretty big scoops of really delicious ice cream. Nice seating area available, and the staff is very nice! 5/5, no doubt the best ice cream joint I’ve ever gone to. The ice cream is right up there with Ben&Jerry’s!

Made the most of the lovely weather today by trying out this new ice cream joint on Argyle Street. Opted for a 2 scoop tub at £2.40(the honeycomb was immense). Reasonably priced compared to some other ice cream joints I have went to. Milkshakes also on the go along with waffles etc, but the focus of this place is very much on the ice cream. And they do it well. They have a seating area which was very welcoming and a chilled out vibe in general. I anticipate this place will do well over summer, given its location near Kelvingrove Park.
