Argyle Street Railway Station

Location wise, it’s absolutely cracking for shopping and city centre venturing.
Within easy walking distance of the St Enoch Centre and Argyle Street (duh!) and about 5 minutes away from Buchanan Street and George Square, if you’re coming in on the low level from the East side, it’s a good call to get off here rather than Central.
The problems are, it’s a very isolated platform, underneath the street and far from the ticket office. If it’s late at night, it’s perhaps not the first place a lone traveller should venture too. I’ve never really felt unsafe there, but uncomfortable? Yes.
It always feels a bit dirty too. It is cleaned, I’ve seen staff hard at work, but it just has a general feel of mankiness about it.
Thankfully, services in both directions are frequent, fast and plentiful so you should never be here for too long. Advance warning too: if Celtic are playing at home, before and right after the game, this station WILL be absolutely jumping.

While the station itself is memorable only in terms of its slightly odd layout (it’s quite a walk from the entrance to the platforms), Argyle Street is a handy stop on the local line.
Given the closeby proximity of Queen Street, High Street and Central, there’s no real reason for a stop to be here but many are thankful for the easy access it grants them to the shopping district of its namesake. It’s also the best stop for the Trongate’s offerings, including the 13^th note and Mono, as well as some spots in the Merchant Ciy.
As others have noted, it’s lack of ticket barriers means it’s a popular stop with those looking for a free ride to and from town.

Another station with a very unusual layout. Walking into Argyle Street feels like a rollercoaster — first you’re heading straight along, then down an escalator, then WOOAAH, you’re heading straight up again to get to the platforms. Unfortunately though this whole walk to the platforms takes a good minute or so, not so good if it’s busy and you’re rushing for a train.
Being right in the middle of Argyle Street though makes it a superb central location for the shops. And the service is pretty god too — with trains roughly every 10 minutes south to Motherwell, Lanark and Larkhall, and west towards Glasgow Central, Partick and Dalmuir.

I go here sometimes as it’s on my route home and the trains from Central go past here about one minute later which is enough when I’m powerwalking my way down after a few drinks down Merchant City way.
There’s only two lines and it’s not very busy but it’s a decent shout at peak times if you’re going anywhere on this line rather than going from Central which can get really busy.
There’s hardly ever anyone outside here trying to sell you stuff as well which is a bonus if you’re in a hurry.

This train station is often forgotten by locals and the transport authority alike.
Locals tend to bypass it without ever realising it’s there. I know I’ve been through here, but I can’t think when. It’s not on my train-​line, making it all the more baffling.
As the others mentioned, there are no ticket barriers here, so like High Street and Charing Cross, you might get away with that couple of quid still in hand. Bonus! It’s handy for getting to the Merchant City, and is a decent walking distance from both Central, Queen Street and High Street stations.
Not bad.

Despite its dodgy looking exterior, Argyle Street train station is actually quite a handy wee station in town for getting from A to B if you’d rather avoid the much busier and barriered Central Station.
With quite a central location on Argyle Street, it’s an ideal stop for shoppers and those heading to the Merchant City, as a cheap and cheerful method of transport, and if you’re lucky enough you might even get away without paying the fare… bonus!
