Specialties
Greenfields Independent Day and Boarding School for children aged 2 to 18 with Pre-school Middle School, 6th Form and EFL College. Free entitlement scheme available. Fees start from £57 a week. Situated in beautiful grounds, with its adventure playground backing into the Ashdown Forest itself, the school is a safe and wonderful place to learn. From Parents and Toddlers through Infant classes, Montessori materials are utilised. Reading and writing are practised daily from age 4 with the goal of children being able to read and write competently before joining the main school.
The main difference between Greenfields and other schools is the unique teaching method it uses. This method (Study Technology) isolates the barriers preventing or hindering a child from learning and then provides precise tools to deal with them. Its use allows any child of any ability to learn anything — even those who have been labelled ‘dyslexic’.
History
Established in 1981.
Greenfields was founded in 1981 by dedicated educator Margaret Neal who sold her own house in East Grinstead in order to fund it. She started with three teachers and thirty students, but after two years numbers had more than doubled and the opportunity arose to purchase Tylehurst School in Priory Road — which is now Greenfields School. At that time, the Greenfields Educational Trust, a registered charity, was set up to manage the school.
Graduates have gone on to great success, including an Academy Award winner, a television designer, 2 racing car drivers, doctors, artists and media specialists. Recently a Greenfields graduate was accepted into Brasenose College Oxford where she has produced and directed her own play in addition to her undergraduate studies. Others take the study methods back to countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Canada, Ghana, Uganda and many more where they use them in a wide variety of careers.
