Quite pub close to Exeter St David’s Stn. Good for getting a well earned pint if you have just had a long journey.
3 well kept ales to try especially Deuchers so well worth a visit.

This pub near Exeter station looks a little bit rough round the edges and certainly not the kind of place you expect to find real ale, let alone a decent pint of Deuchars!
So it is a decent option for a drink by the station but I would check the great western hotel bar (
) first as that’s the better option (if child free).
Was surprised to discover that the pub has almost a century and a half of history, originally existing as the Elmfield Hotel offering refreshment to travelers using the nearby station. It did close for a while last year, but is back.

Quite a lively pub. It’s been through some rough times with landlords and management coming and going, but it’s been redecorated and appears to be stable now. It’s always been a lively venue for live music, both in terms of open mic nights and booked in bands. The atmosphere is pretty intense, and there’s always been a bit of a dodgy feeling with some of the younger people, but it is in St Davids! The down at heel feel of the area isn’t helped by The Artful Dodger (is it shut down?) but the Jolly Porter is hopefully going to continue to perk the area up a bit.

The Jolly Porter is based by Exeter main train station, St David’s. The pub often has live music at weekends, a high percetage of the live acts are covers bands.
Unless you live near to the Jolly Porter I can’t really come up with a good reason to visit this pub. If you want live music there are better venues in Exeter, if you want a lively atmosphere there are better pubs in Exeter and if you want a quiet drink there are better pubs in Exeter.

The JP is a great city centre hideaway — a chance to escape the crazed shoppers on the weekend. It feels like a very comfortable and peaceful place which is down to the sofas and the atmosphere pretty much.
In the evenings its pretty lively too.
