The Bear is in a fine old building at the heart of Esher, and has number of rooms with lots of big tables, really good in a pub as it makes it great for conversation. The place combines a traditional feel with being light and airy(at least on this summer’s evening). There was an above average selection of fine real ales as well as everything else a pub serves, and the food was great — around £10 for gourmet fish & chips, and similar gastro pub favourites. Parking is available nearby. Beside the pub is a striking old Anglican church — a tudor meeting house that is apparently the or one of the earliest purpose built Anglican churches(i.e. not a former catholic parish church).

Had a nice evening with friends for a standard Friday night out in a pub. The main bar is large and the barpersons seem to have stations allocated, so you never have to wait too long for service. It does, however, seem to be a stop-off for the beautiful people of Esher before heading on to the mainly pretentious bars in the town! The Bear is fine though for a beer or two, or four!

The Bear in Esher has a restaurant selling expensive food that is not good value for money. There is a reasonable choice of the menu. you can also get bar snacks that are tasty but costly. the pub itself is excellent selling good beer and wines with comfortable seating. a nice atmosphere. Best avoided when horse racing is on at nearby Sandown Park when it it is heaving with people. Good for drinks but food poor value.
