Got a stunning ring from my boyfriend but it was a little too big so took it to JR Drever jeweller for re-sizing. I was fully advised that, as it had stones, reducing the size may loosen the stones and due to it being soldered it may tarnish. I went ahead with the re-sizing and neither the stones or the join/solder have been a problem. Absolutely fabulous jeweller, nothing like the big chains, a true independant shop with charm and character.

I had my engagement ring resized here(brand new white gold ring) and they made a dreadful job of it. They cracked the shank and didn’t use white gold to join it but some other white metal which I reacted to. They didn’t tell me they’d broken the shank but I saw it was cracked and the stones rattled after it was adjusted too. This would have cost over £100 to have repaired. They also blanked out the hallmarks when they repaired it by choosing to cut the band at the hallmarks, which were up the side. Their jewellery in the window is mainly second hand and very tarnished. I think the prices are steep for the weight of gold and carat. Before my engagement ring I had a vintage gold ring mended but they made it very thin at the repair. I had used them out of a misguided sense of loyalty to the area I lived in. Wouldn’t use them again. From now on I am only having jewellery sorted at Fraser Hart on Princes Street, who were absolutely brilliant when it came to wedding ring purchase.
