History
Established in 1981.
The Georgian Window was opened in Durham in 1981 by a young man called Norman Longstaff, Norman was a picture framer who sold his art to shops throughout the north of England. When he saw this shop advertised to rent. So the shop started out as a gallery with arty cards, clothes from India. Soon Dunoon mugs were sold here from The Georgian Window. Norman says we must have sold over 10,000 scarves 1000s of mugs about 70,000 post cards. The shop has been so popular and has had such a following, the tourists are from all over the world but our regulars are from Hartlepool Darlington Sunderland Gateshead I can’t tell you how many white cotton blouses I have bought and sold along with fabulous dreamy dresses and kaftans. The shop still sells the same kind of items we began with back in the 1980s with that ethnic but tasteful twist.
