As the promotion says– authentic tapas some of our party hadn’t long returned from a Spanish holiday and felt that El Coto was the genuine article. Small and cosy; reasonably priced; likely to be more food than you can eat. We used a combination of set menus and this worked well. Went during Uni hols– I believe it can get quite busy in term time.

Had the set tapas menu for 3, which was 15 quid each(this was at dinner). There was more than enough food for three people and we were all stuffed by the end. There were about ten small plates with the set menu. What I can remember: chorizo in white wine sauce chicken in a creamy tomato sauce green olives and bread with garlic mayo cheese and ham plate whitefish croquettes beef stew chili prawns pork loin in creamy mushroom sauce bacon-wrapped dates The plates seemed to be hit and miss. Some were really great(the bacon-wrapped dates), some werent(they didnt cook out all the alcohol from the white wine chorizo). Would be much better if they could get consistent on all the dishes, but was good enough. Service was ok. Nice atmosphere.

These are the best tapas in Durham, which probably isn’t saying all that much. However, the food is good, as is the sangria. Competent wait staff and good ambiance. The £12 set menu is a very good deal, giving you more than enough food and great variety.
