I’ve written about Tyninghame Beach before. But next door lies the John Muir Country Park, which is a conservation area named after the father of preservation in the US, who was born in Dunbar in the 19th century. He fought to save Hetch Hetchy(but sadly lost), Yosemite, Muir Woods… the world would be a poorer place without his legacy(amongst others, of course). It’s a place for walking your dogs(apart from the salt marshes where walking is requested to be limited to the dry walkways at the outskirts), capturing some of that beauty we all fall for in East Lothian, or perhaps a picnic on the beach. For me, I picked a blustery day to take in a more atmospheric effect — however that also resulted in fantastic gusts of sand billowing across the beach and howling winds, which resulted in a sandblasted shadow of my former self. Despite the tribulations of feeling at times almost literally being held up by the wind, fighting to breathe and bracing against sand slamming through every fibre of my clothing, it remains the same — a lovely place for a walk. As it is flat, it is pretty accessible for all levels of fitness(although less so for wheelchair access — that i think is much more limited to the gravel paths where found). So stay, enjoy and perhaps think about the legacy that has been made, and what we will leave for others in the future.

this is a gorgeous park with marshland beach woods and changing landscapes. hundreds of rabbits. there’s a large play park and several picnic areas. the beach is a favourite for surfers and on windy days it can be pretty busy. not all dog walkers leave their mess. it’s a great spot.

This is a great place for Scottish scenery and walks the only drawback with this place is the dogs mess as every dog owner in East Lothian seems to use it. That aside it is beutiful.
